Hotpoint WD860 WASHER/DRYER The worst peice of equipment, not just appliance, I have ever bought. It it now where it belongs, ON THE TIP at Stockton Heath Warrington. There must be an inherent design fault with this machine,I have had 3 machines, 12 Engineers Visits, 4 main control boards, 2 Display Boards, 1 Motor and I can remember how many thermal cut-outs. This machine has nearly caught fire, apart from the dog barking in the night and me shutting the machine off, I do not know what may have happened, oh and the same machine flooded my ground floor twice, the three machines were all in the first 3 months, after that, the company would only discuss an exchange if the Engineer recommended an exchange, you then ask the Engineer his opinion, "Im only here to fix it mate", Phone the company back "Is it fixed now?" they ask, "yes" well we cannot discuss a replacement". The same story each time until the warranty runs out, "Ah yes we can send and engineer for £159 extended Insurance", "No thanks, I thought I had bought the washer/dryer, not rented it", The customer service is rubbish and follows the pattern. I happen to have seen one the Engineers on the golf course (He, it transpires is a member of the same club as I) I asked him "What is the ongoing issue with this washer/dryer", bad design, and continual requirement for updated software" was his reply, " I dont work for them anymore". Do yourselves a favour steer clear of Indeset/Hotpoint they have no credibility in my eyes.
I bought this washer/dryer for the convenience of having two appliances in one and also because it was to be energy efficient and silent. Since I've had this appliance I have only ever used the dryer function in emergencies because it takes absolute ages for anything to dry. Therefore I was very disappointed with this function although it does have some excellent features which means it stops automatically if all your stuff is dry. Apart from this it also has some other really nifty functions such as a temperature gage which means that you can turn the temperature right down (you can't do this on many machines) and in this way safe some extra electricity and this also take time of the total washing time. The washing time is also indicated and means that you are not left to guess what time it is done. I have not had to use the childlock but this is also an extra feature. However, as said above, I also bought this machine because it was supose to be silent (or as good as) and energy efficient. Well, it certainly is energy efficient if you don't use the dryer and turn the temperature right down but silent it is definately not! But having said all of that, my washing machine is on nearly all the time and I have now had it for two years and it has not once broken down and it isn't showing any signs of wear and tear. So all in all, I am reasonalby happy.
I have had this washer-dryer for just over a year now and am quite satisfied with it. It has worked well without any problems and has a good selection of wash programs to suit most needs. The drying function is obviously not as good as a stand alone dryer, but it is quite adequate for us as I prefer to sun (or radiator depending on weather!) dry our clothes in addition anyway. I had heard some bad reviews about Hotpoint before I bought this so was slightly wary, but as it turns out I needn't have worried. It can be a little too noisy for my liking sometimes but I've started switching it on when we go to sleep and have my freshly washed laundry waiting for me in the morning! If you are pressed for space and cannot have a seperate washer and dryer, then I would recommend this product.
We bought the WD860 washer/dryer last year. The blue display showing time left is great. The main critisism is the lack of a fast wash. I especially chose this machine because it said it had a 'quick' wash of 30 mins. The fact is that the 30 degree wash only has an 800 spin so the washing comes out wet. You then have to put it on to spin which takes a further 25 mins. The fastest complete wash is an hour on 60 degrees. The 40 degree complete wash and spin which most people use all the time takes 1 hour and 25 mins!! This was definitely designed by a man. My old 20 year old machine had a 20 min. wash and spin. If you wanted to spin anything it was 5 mins. Why should it take 25 mins. to spin clothes at 1600 setting.
Hotpoint WD860 Graphite - BEWARE BE VERY AWARE. I have had nothing but problems with my machine. Even upon delivery it didn't work, pcb broke. I purchased mine in Jan '05 and by feb '06 had had 4 major repairs (out of the warranty now, but don't worry as one is covered by our Statutory Rights). So I demanded and received a full refund from the store and was able to dispose or keep the machine, so I kept it . The fault I am having now is flooding on most programmes, therefore I can't or daren't leave the house when the machine's running, very inconvenient.... just hope it doesn't catch fire like others have.
I have had contacts from another review site and know there are major problems with these machines, so beware.
I would not recommend buying one, but if you do I would advise taking out the extended warranty and when a fault happends get onto hotpoint at once and if the fault happens again they have to honour that repair for the duration of the machine.
I also found the programme text coming off, this again is a fault of hotpoint, cause when I insisted they send me another drawer replacement the new drawer text stays. They tried to tell me it was my dish cloth detergent... how bizare is that.
Brought this model when it first came out - waited six months for its manufacture. When it did arrive had nothing but problems with it, flooding floor, various technical errors, catching fire, blowing fuses, not drying, not sensor drying, not spinning. Am on my third replacement model of this machine and have practically everything replaced. Only works about 50% of the time. When it does work it is a great machine I brought it for all the extras it does, time delay, sensor drying etc etc. If you are lucky enough to have one which fully works you will not regret it. Not sure if I just have bad luck or if there is a major fault with them.
