While staying with my parents recently I used their Hotpoint washer dryer a few times as I hadn't expected to stay for so long and ended up running out of clothes plus I noticed they had a basket that needed doing so thought I'd lend a hand while I was there.
The Hotpoint WDAL8640G is a combination machine that will wash and dry clothes in one load so saves you having two appliances and having to transfer the wet washing from the washing machine to a separate dryer.
There are plenty of programmes for the washing machine and the dryer so it's as versatile as having two appliances, the programmes and selections are easily marked and even though there are so many there you'll probably find yourself using the same few all the time and only opting for the more unusual programmes on the odd occasion that it's necessary.
The temperature selection ranges from cold to 90 degs, I've only washed up to 40 degs and when I asked my mum she said she hasn't gone above 50 and that was only for some tea towels that had got extra dirty during jam making season. The water heats up for the machine to start washing the clothes instantly and none of the cycles are especially long, although a hot cotton wash does take more than two hours so don't rely on this washing machine for a last minute item you need to wear that day. It does have a quick wash function but the dryer element of the washer dryer is so slow you'd never get your work shirt done and dry in the 35 minutes I can manage at home with my very quick wash machine and separate heat blasting tumble dryer.
Drying half a load can take over an hour and even then some items come out feeling as though they're still damp, it's a good dryer for removing the creases from clothes without slaving over a hot iron so full points for that.
All items washed in this Hotpoint washing machine have come out clean, this is as much to do with the detergent as the machine I know but the solid build and straightforward noise of the drum going round gives me the impression this washing machine is cleaning as thoroughly and effectively as it can.
The £299 cost is good value and I am considering replacing my own washing machine and tumble dryer with a combination like this, I need a quicker dryer so it won't be this one but if you don't mind waiting for your clothes this is a model to look at.
I used to have this Hotpoint WDAL8640G Free Standing Washer Dryer but have since upgraded due to moving house.
It is definitely a good washer dryer. I was a bit dubious when my partner first bought this as I wasn't very familiar with the brand Hotpoint and what I didn't know about it didn't appeal to me. I think I had a false understanding of the brand as I have since had a dishwasher and now a brand new washing machine by Hotpoint and they are brilliant.
If I am honest the thing I can't go back to is not having the settings which display the amount of time for each setting selected. It is so convenient knowing how long the machine will be on for so you can go and do something else and then pop back to take it out when its ready instead of forgetting about it and having to do it late at night. So sadly this model doesn't have those features even though it does have a lot of useful settings. I found with this model it was rather quiet for the majority of the wash but when it got to the spin cycle (like most machines) it got quite noisy. Ive had worse and ones which actually move, this one doesn't but the noise is noticeable. The drum is a great size and you can actually pack so much in and everything comes out thoroughly washed and dried.
The Hotpoint WDAL8640G Free Standing Washer Dryer in Graphite has a AAA performance for energy, washing and spin cycle. It has an 8kg washing capacity and a 6kg drying load and I've always been able to wash sheets and towels in big loads with no problem.
Noise level (Drying) 64 dB
Noise Level (Spin) 85 dB
Noise Level (Wash) 51 dB
This machine will lifts heavy stains as there’s an Anti-Stain wash which uses a constant temperature to help lift out stubborn stains. I always spray some stain remover on for added effect. The eco wash uses small bursts of energy over a longer wash to keep your electricity costs low.
Basically this machine only costs about £27.46 a year to run which is rather impressive as its doing two jobs.
I would recommend it as a cheaper option if you're saving money as it definitely cleans well, the noise level is good (apart form the last bit of the spin which is kind of expected anyway), it has lots of functions and the washing/drying capacity is great for a regular household.
