Advantages: LED Display, ease of use, different functions.
Disadvantages: Loud spin, dryer is not great.
As we have a service plan with Domestic and General when our old washer dryer broke we were offered an upgrade to a new machine. We decided to wait a month for the new AEG L12843VIT and pay the additional £200 to upgrade rather than taking an older model as this one had a slightly better capacity. There was such a limited choice on good integrated washer dryers that it was difficult to chose but we decided on the L12843VIT in the end because:
1. We trusted the AEG brand.
2. It is an integrated machine (fits behind one of our cupboard doors neatly in the kitchen).
3. Is a washer dryer (useful when you have a baby!). Although we have an additional dryer so we were more concerned about the washing machine element.
4. It had a good spin rate of 1400rpm.
5. It had a large capacity of 6kg for washing and 4kg for drying.
6. The A wash energy rating and B energy class. (good at the time for an integrated washer dryer with this capacity)
7. The energy saving mode only uses the amount of water it needs to based on the load size.
Having been without a washing machine for several weeks I was absolutely in love with my new machine when it arrived in September 2008. The washing machine part is great and as well as having all the programmes you would expect (cotton, delicates, synthetics etc at each of the temps 30,40 60 degrees etc), I loved the additional functions which you can adjust on each wash. These extra functions include for example; the super quick option (for lightly soiled clothes) or the stain action option which means you can put vanish in the prewash portion of your machine, the length of the programme and the tumble dryer time.
I also love the LED display which countdowns the length of time the programme has left and helps when you want to adjust the time of a wash or the time you have the dryer on.
One of the other very cool features is the delay start button which is great for me as I can time it to go on as my son wakes up at around 7am and then whilst I am busy with him it completes the programme. This saves waking him up with the spin and also forgetting about clothes which end up smelly and having to be washed again.
The only issues I have with the machine are:
1. The noise of the spin (you feel like the cupboard door is going to come off!).
2. The dryer is not great and you have to put it on for a set time so it doesn't dry automatically which means clothes can still be wet/or be over dry and wrinkled. But then lots of integrated washer/dryers have not great tumble dryers and I knew this before I bought the machine.
3. The machine broke last month as the door lock burned out which killed the machines LED display. It was however fixed under the manufacturers warranty very quickly.
4. I am not sure I would pay £700+ for this machine which is the current price on the net.
Summary: Really easy to use, endless options but the dryer isnt great and it is pricey!
