... a Lavamat machine 3 yrs ago. After 2 1/2 years, heard funny noises but it still worked...busy lives...did not get it looked at. When it stopped working, called local engineer who said it was beyond repair. It was out of it s guarantee. Resigned to the fact that had to get a new one. I was a bit peeved that it had not lasted that long. So impulsivley one afternoon I rang AEG to tell them what I thought about their machine, I felt better, even though I knew it would not get me anywhere. ... four year old machine has just been written off by AEG s engineer who then charged me £55 for his opinion. I bought this machine because it is the Which recommended model. The enginner tells me that I need a new motor for this machine and possibly a new PC board. The cost of the new motor is £220 without VAT. All in all it will be £350, to possibly repair the machine. The motor is overheating and then cutting out without finishing the cycle. The motor cannot be accessed because it is a sealed unit. ... we bought an AEG on quality alone and at first were very impressed however it soon developed an electrical fault where the front panel started flickering. This didn't however stop the machine working. We contacted Comet who tried a total of seven times to fix the fault numerous parts were fitted but the fault persisted. In the end Comet wrote off the washer as uneconomical to repair ! So it seems these expensive complex washers are great but be careful who you buy from as they are difficult to repair. I must say that overall though it was a great washer whilst it lasted. ...
