Bosch Classixx 1200 Washing Machine I bought this washing machine from Littlewoods in 2005 and I am sorry to say due to the flooding we have experienced today it is now probably time to say goodbye. On a tight budget I don't have contents insurance and luckily I do have an alternative washing machine to use while I sort out a replacement. The Bosch is the second Bosch washing machine I have owned and won't be the last. The machine has been reliable, 100% trouble free and has always done exactly what I require of it. My machine has an A+ wash rating and a B spin drying rating. I have economy seven, so tend to put a load of washing on each night. Obviously at times I need to do an extra load during the day, especially if the grand children are staying or we are get through a lot of towels due to wet dogs. Controls The controls are very easy to use and consist of mainly a simple dial operated programme setter and a small bank of buttons comprising from left to right of the "start button" as well as "pre-wash", "reduced ironing", "rinse plus" and "wash plus". Between these and the main dial there is a second dial should the user choose to use a different spin speed than that dictated by the wash programme selected. The programmes around the dial are easy to decipher being a 50/50 split between cotton and "easy care" washes. These are then split into temperature settings of 30, 40 and 60 for easy care and 30, 40, 60, 60 intensive and 90 on the cotton side, also incorporated within the dial are settings especially for "delicate", "wool", "rinse" and "spin" as well as drain and a "quick mixed load 30 option. Generally to use the machine, select the programme required on the comprehensive dial, leaving the spin speed on the 1200 setting, put powder or liquid into the drawer on the left of the machine unless you are using a power ball or lid in-machine dispenser, in which case place that on top of the load of washing as directed by the detergent manufacturer. The LCD display will light up and the numbers shown are the anticipated length of total wash time, or once the sequence has begun of the remaining wash time. For prewash or any of the other button options, simply press them prior to the "start" button. Using the Washing Machine: As already mentioned using the machine is very easy, it comfortably holds 6Kg of dry laundry and I am pretty sure I have overloaded it from time to time. Although I run it mostly overnight I find the LCD display of time remaining very useful when I use it during the day, the machine constantly resets itself, for example if I put too much detergent in it will prolong the rinse to ensure all the detergent is rinsed clean away. The drum has a balancing mechanism, so that jump when the load gets stuck on one side as the machine starts to spin that I experienced prior to using Bosch is avoided. A major advantage as a night time user is that it is a quiet machine to use. Bosch build better should be their advertising motto, because the machine chunters quietly in the corner even at its great age. The machine can be plumbed in for hot and cold fill or cold only fill and I have used it with both and not noticed any difference to the efficiency of the wash. Quick and easy to plumb in and set up. Anything Else: The dimensions are typical of a UK model front load machine at Overall Depth: 59 cm - Overall Height: 85.6 cm and Overall Width: 59.99 cm. The door opens to the right and being an older machine is also an average sized door. The door has a timer mechanism that does not allow the door to be opened for 30 seconds after the programme has ended. The dispenser drawer is also the typical version of large wash compartment, pre-wash compartment and conditioner compartment all easily identifiable by the icons that are present on many machines being an I, II and a flower or * icon. The mashing machine is easy to clean just requiring a quick wipe over with multi-purpose cleaner, the drawer seal is easy to clean as well which is just as well as it also acts as a collecting point for bits of tissue, dog hair, chewed up bits and pieces that were caught on dog bedding etc. The dispenser drawer lifts out for easy cleaning and slots back in easily, the glass door is also simple to clean inside and out. At the time of purchase the outer panel colour was available in White, Cream, Silver or Black to compliment any kitchen decor. Any Problems? No none whatsoever. How would I improve the machine? Now this is the crunch question. I love Bosch, I love this machine, however there are a couple of useful functions that would greatly improve user convenience: 1. Half load - now that we are mostly down to two, I often mix a load to make up a full load. 2. Delayed timer - as mentioned I use at night to take advantage of cheaper electricity, in order to do this I have had to either a) get up in the middle of the night or b) buy a timer. Correct answer is b). Finally: I would recommend Bosch products, this is the second Bosch washing machine I have had and after all this time the only reason it requires replacing in is due to water ingress, nothing to do with the machine. It has never, ever let me down. Prior to owning Bosch (and in the holiday cottage) I have had cheaper alternatives that just do not last as long or work as efficiently. However, the Hotpoint models I have had did have half load and delayed timer functions. As I recall my first Bosch had delayed timer function as well, so it is a little annoying that this one did not. That is a consideration when replacing it and I will be perusing washing machine reviews over the next few days. I anticipate buying another Bosch though. The Classix is at the lower end of the price range of Bosch washing machines and represents excellent value for money. Stars 4/5 Due to the lack of the two functions mentioned. Price and Availability: At the time of writing there was a used version on eBay for £50.00. New price is around £450.00 and the range currently sells for between £300-£1200 from outlets such as John Lewis, Littlewoods and some independent retailers. (January 2014 sale prices excluded). Thank you for reading my review of my outgoing machine
I'll start off the review with my personal experience of this washing machine. So we're all moved into our new place, have been here for around about a month, and this machine was installed in our kitchen. The first thing I noticed was that the drum seemed bigger than our previous machine (which I have reviewed.) Our previous machine held 5kg of washing. Not enough for our needs and I'm pretty sure I crammed in way above the limit on that on a number of occasions. So, basically, this machine holds a shed load of washing - although I wouldn't take that literally. We're a family of three; one grubby husband, one grubby 18 month old boy and one wife whose constantly never on top of the washing. Because of this, I need a machine that has a big enough drum. I need a machine that I can load to the gunnel's when I get behind on the laundry - or correction, my husband needs a machine to fill to the gunnel's. I've looked this product up on-line and have been informed that it holds 6kg of washing - 1kg more than my previous machine, but I think it looks massive in comparison. To look at the machine it's a bog standard white goods machine and is only available in white. The drawer where you put detergent is a three slot drawer; one for fabric softener, one for detergent - and to be honest I have no idea what the third drawer is for! I haven't tried to take it out yet so can't comment on the ease of washing. There are the usual controls you'd expect to see on a washing machine; different settings for different washes (or programs) temperature control and a start button. The machine is front loading and gets an A+ energy - probably due to the many time saving options you can choose. The shortest cycle you can put it on is 55 minutes - the longest is 135 minutes. I always wash on 40 degrees but it allows for cold washes (30 degrees) and higher temps of 60 degrees. Personally I don't feel the need to wash anything other than washable nappies at 60 degrees - and even some of my brands only require a 40 degree wash, so it's about personal preference. I have found this machine to be the fastest I've ever owned. And I haven't found myself having to wash clothes again due to powder build-up or the machine not getting the job done - like I have with other machines. The great thing is that the machine also makes a repeated beep noise once it's finished a wash. Downside is that it's quite noisy when it goes into a full spin cycle so I wouldn't fancy doing a wash over night or during nap-time. Over all I really don't feel I can fault this machine - yes I would like it to be quieter but given the fact it washes quickly, does the job it's intended for and saves on energy then I give it the Mum's Thumbs Up!
We have had this washing machine for nearly two years now and it is still functioning just as well as when we bought it. It is incredibly easy to use with preset functions for various fabric types and temperatures, all of which can be chosen with one simple wheel. The preset functions can also be varied manually (eg. you can change the spin speed). The machine itself is fairly stylish looking and also very sturdy. The door is strong, but not stiff to open and seals well when shut. The drawer is also easy to pull out for everyday use and also pulls out completely for cleaning. The machine takes a reasonably large load for a normally sized machine (a week's washing for one person) with no loss of cleaning efficiency. When running, it is quite quiet and doesn't shake excessively. When finished, the machine beeps intermittently - handy so you don't forget about it! Most importantly, it washes clothes thoroughly and reasonably quickly. Even the quick wash setting is effective at removing stains. I have had no problems with clothes being ruined in the wash - no shrinkage or bobbly bits on woollens - provided you use the right settings for the clothes in the load (I find the pre-set ones are fine). Bosch is a trusted brand and this machine is proving to live up to its reputation - reliable and effective, so worth a little extra cash.
God washing machine we have had for a few years now, good desing, fits most places and incredibly simple to use, just twist the dial and press start, you don't need a computer science degree to work out how to do an economy wash on this one. not very noisy, when the door is closed can't even notice its on. have noticed quite a lot of black scum around the bottom of the rubber on the seal for the door, don't know if this is common, but we have been recommended to try a boil type wash once a week to try and get rid of it because its almost like its stained in, it wont scrub out, (which is odd for a washing machine to have a stain because i thought that was what washing machines were supposed to remove?!?!?) But still doesn't affect the performance of it, just looks real ugly, started happening about 18 months after we got it. Good product though, cannot really complain aside from the staining and its a minor fault considering nothing else has ever gone wrong with it. Oh and a plastic tab off the powder draw broke off but i think that was my fault so not a bad point :)
I have had this washing machine over 5 years and now have 3 children in that time. I wash between 8-10 times a week which woudl be considered heavy use. This washing machine has been BRILLIANT. I used 40 degree and 60 degree wash mainly and the 40 degree decreased time load takes just over 40 mins. Even with a full load (do not over fill) the washing is clean and crisp. Although the spin is 1200 sometimes to aid drying I do put it on an extra spin which helps when drying the washing. The machine is certainly well made with sturdy door, fittings and buttons (having been climbed on and messed around with by 3 chidlren under 5). The only draw back being that if you do over load the washing machine it will fail to spin, usually be cause the load is uneven or too heavy. Nevertheless, I feel that it is always worth paying for a Bosch if you are intending on doing the amount of washing that I do!
This Bosch washing machine has been excellent value for money. I bought it just after christmas last year and i use it roughly 2 to 3 times a week and it runs perfectly like the day i bought it. Every componant is really buitl to last as my 2 year old son is always trying to climb on the door to get to whatever may be on the worktop. The draw compartment is really easy to take out and clean and it the machine is so easy to use, all of the different temperatures and wash cycles can be done manualy or you can let it do the cycle which a 40 degree wash usually takes about 80 minutes. The only negative thing I find about this washing machine is that when you have a full load it doent seem to wash the clothes properly so i have to add extra water at the wash phase, and again when it does its last rinse, when the conditioner goes ion otherwise the clothes come out like cardboard Other than that it has been the most reliable appliance that ive owned and excellent value for money. Bosch sure does live up to its name with this washing machine.
