The A126Q 'wash' a great machine
Member Name: Jenny_Summers
Advantages: Good value for money, lots of different programs, rinse hold function, A+ energy efficiency rating
Disadvantages: Haven't found any so far
Having bought (blagged) my old washing machine from a white goods second hand shop for a tenner as they were unloading it off the van to the warehouse, I felt I had gotten a pretty good deal. It was old, the temperature nob didn't work, it didn't have a particularly big load capacity but hey it cost me less than a big box of the soap powder I would put in it so I was pretty chuffed!
Then the inevitable happened, after 2 years the ancient washing machine my hubby had nicknamed old faithful broke, and not just a little bit, it was completely worn out, it had washed the clothes of at least two families for many years and one day it had been switched off at the mains and never switched back on again.
Disaster!! I was up a river of excrement without a means of propulsion, literally as well as figuratively because at the time I had a 10 month old who wore re-usable nappies. I desperately searched through the Argos catalog for the cheapest washing machine (payday was no time soon and I had to do washing because my little poop-machine was making it quicker than I could hand wash it), well my mother being the nosiest woman in the world came over to stick her 2ps worth in and boy am I glad she did. She has had a Bush washing machine for years and has never had anything to complain about with it. She told me that I shouldn't go for the cheapest machine in the catalog and even offered to lend me the difference between the one I was looking at and the A126Q because she really thought it was the better option. Well long story short I took her advice
One of the big selling points was that the machine I was looking at only had a 4kg capacity whereas the capacity of the A126Q is 6kg, my mother has been known to wash duvets in hers, I wouldn't recommend this for anything bigger than a thin single duvet or maybe a cot duvet as it's probably the reason my mums machine jumps about the place when she uses it now, also the instruction booklet that comes with it does specifically say not to overload the machine. Talking of the instructions, I have found them to be particularly helpful, they even remind you to remove the bolts that are put in for transportation and give you a detailed description on how to do so.
Setting up your new machine is quite easy and the aforementioned manual covers every step just in case you have never done it before or are a little unsure. It also contains a lot of other useful information including a large section of FAQs, a page on troubleshooting your washing machine if something goes wrong and a particularly handy guide to exactly what all the 23 programs do and what each one is best used for, this was all new to me as my old machine had just two settings off and on, it's been marvelous for my delicates having a sensitive wash I can tell you.
I'm also a big fan of the baby wash which is perfect as I have 2 children under 3, and the 30 minute wash which I generally use for things like dishcloths and tea towels is brilliant. The machine also has a rinse hold function which is good if you're not going to be able to get your clothes out of the washing machine straight away. The child lock function is another clever one which prevents potentially dangerous situations with my 2 year old climbing into or attempting to put the puppy in the washing machine.
The machine itself looks very pretty in my kitchen and hasn't gone unnoticed buy guests ( although that could be because my last one was so ancient looking), the programs are all listed on the front so you don't have to memories what number does what, fantastic if like me you have more important things to remember than what number 5 on the washer does. The program select dial is chunky and feels robust like it could survive my two year old twisting it around. Another of it's handy little functions, perfect if you're likely to have naughty little hands come fiddling with the buttons, is that once it has completed a wash it wont start again until you turn it to zero first so even if you (or someone else) accidentally presses the start button again it wont begin the whole program again, something I have found particularly annoying as I've accidentally lent up against someones washing machine and had to apologize profusely because they then had to wait for it to finish again.
When looking at the machine in the catalog another of its appealing qualities was the A+ energy efficiency rating, the Argos website states that its estimated annual energy consumption is 273.6kW/year although god knows what it's based on, the one thing I can say though is that since switching to the A126Q I have noticed a slight drop in my energy consumption, but even that is hard to judge because my old machine was so poor I assume it would rate as un-gradable. It's maximum spin speed is 1200rpm which for it's price range is at the higher end. For those of you on a water meter it may be useful to know that it uses 49 litres per cycle, oh and my hubby said to add that it's a cold fill although I must admit that that means very little to me.
I almost forgot to cover what should probably have been one of my first points.. Does it get your clothes clean? That is afterall the purpose of a washing machine. Well in short yes! It certainly does, my clothes come out fresh and clean and my whites are looking better than ever.
To sum up this machine has been one of my best purchases in recent years and I couldn't be more pleased with it.
Summary: A great purchase, good value for money does everything you would want and more
