Advantages: Energy efficient, British made, lots of progammes to choose from, 7.5kg drum

Disadvantages: Very noisy

Our old washing machine was on its last legs, so after much internet browsing we picked the Hoover HNF 6167. We paid £279 with free delivery from Dixons online, and also paid an additional £17.99 to have it installed on delivery. They also can (for a charge) take away your old machine to be properly disposed of.

The washing machine looks shiny and sparkly as you'd expect and has a huge number of exciting features, if you're excited by washing your clothes.....

-It's an AAA rated machine, which means it is just about as energy efficient as you can get.
-A 7.5kg drum for big washes.
-A variable spin speed up to 1600rpm (I assume this means revolutions per minute) which means your washing comes out almost dry.
-A timer delay of 3, 6 or 9 hours.
-Nifty little programmes like hand wash and a choice of super speedy washes (29, 44 or 59 minutes).
-A fabulous "sensitive care" option where the drum does something special to ensure there is not a grain of detergent left in your clothes - perfect for children or sensitive skinned people. I have noticed that our clothes have no "residue" feeling at all.

However it's not all great. Due to the supersonic spin speed, it does sound a bit like the machine is going to take off during its last spin cycle. Our washing machine's in the kitchen and it drowns out conversation, the radio, the phone and the baby crying, which is pretty noisy.

Also the quick wash options are for loads of 3.5kg only. I'm not a particularly fastidious person and I've yet to weigh my washing to see if I'm overloading the machine, but the standard not-speedy cycle was still going 3 and a half hours after I put it on, so I'm not keen on that programme. I have a husband who runs a lot and two small children: the machine is used at least once a day and I don't have time to wait hours for the washing to be clean.

Overall I'm impressed by it, and the fact that it's a British made machine is good. But probably it would suit a family who had a utility room and didn't have to live with the noise!
