Like the other review on this machine, i bought it on looks, fast spin speed and, at the time, though Hoover as being a good brand. Where do i start with all the problem i have had; 1, Door hinge Snapped (GIAS failed to repair, i asked hoover to send it to me and i fitted it), also shredded clothes 2, Concrete block cam off, (drum No. 1) along with new soap tray, front fascia and new door. More shredded clothes and another door hinge, which i fitted myself again because GIAS failed to meet its promise 3, Main Bearing completly wrecked, Drum no.2, and more wrecked clothes. as it stands of today the machine is less than 3 years old. I wrote to Hoover who turned their back on me. But i must say that Comet have given me a full refund and i will now Purchase Bosch. My advice to anyone considering buying anything from Hoover is DON'T its cheap, unreliable and dont give a damm about the customer

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

On 16/03/02 I brought a Hoover AAA160 from Comet. I chose it for the high spin speed of 1600 rpm, the larger than average drum and the high number of programmes. Experiences have included conditioner being left behind in the dispensing tray, clothes being 'chewed' by being jammed between the seal and the drum (option of up to 6kg) and residue soap powder being left on clothes. So if you only half fill the drum you won't get these problems but then what was the point of buying a larger drum! Then more recently the machine was getting noisier on the spin cycle - the machine is sold under the heading 'whisper'. Then last week the noise and the banging was so bad that I switch the machine off mid spin. A mechanical engineer has inspected the machine and one of the metal bolts holding the front concrete block has sheered off leaving the end of the bolt in the drum. This will now weaken the other retaining bolts which will in turn sheer off too. He stated that it was a stress facture and now means that the whole drum needs to be replaced as the end of the bolt cannot be removed. The 5 year parts guarantee requires the parts to be fitted by a Hoover engineer. I will be asking Hoover what they intend to do as this is obviously a design fault. I will report on here the details of their response. - 17/01/05 PS I have also seen comments (on the Comparestoreprices.co.uk site) about their machine lasting 18 months when 2 bolts sheered off. UPDATE- Hoover would not accept that it was a design fault. The only way of utilising the 5 year parts guarantee was to pay a Hoover engineer £84.95 to come round and inspect the machine. He would then order the relevant parts and return with them at a later date and repair the machine without further charge. Having been satisifed that as this wasn't going to be a case of an 'open cheque', I booked for an engineer to come round. When he turned up in the morning (he had been booked for the afternoon) he blamed the fault on the bolts being loose and the machine not being serviced, but later admitted to my brother, who is a mechanical engineer that this would be difficult as nothing is easily assessible. However, he did manage to repair the problem without needing any new parts. The machine is now working as normal. The engineer did mention that this was one of the earlier prototypes and they have improved the newer models but would still not admit that this was a design fault. My advice - always consider the extended warranty if you are not in a position to just dump the machine when it goes wrong.

          Disadvantages

We have just purchased a new washing machine the Hoover Whisper 3AAA 1300 Spin from our local Curry’s store for a reduced price of £357.00. Our old washing machine had gone and it was time to invest. Our previous make was also Hoover so we had no hesitation sticking with Hoover, since that washing machine has lasted us a long time. The first thing I noticed about this machine is that it looks good, it looked good in the store and even better in my kitchen. It’s all computerised and all the button are neatly displayed on the front. It’s got a big bowl in comparison to our old Hoover and can accommodate up to 6kg of washing which is quite a lot. The washing machine is also a whisper, I thought it was bit strange calling the washing machine that but true to its name, it’s very quiet but a bit louder than a whisper especially when you spin dry your clothes. Our old Hoover was very loud so it was quiet strange to hear such a quiet washing machine. For all it’s technical looks the washing machine is very easy to use, you read off the number you want to select, the washing machine sets the timing and the washing machine is ready to wash. One of the excellent things about this washing machine is that its got inbuilt handwash features so I no longer have to wash ‘special’ tops on hand because the machine washes them on hand for me……if you know what I mean. A full load of washing takes just over an hour but I have found that after the programme has finished, that is the washing done I have had to select Fast Spin to dry the clothes. They have been left a bit soaked for some odd reason but it maybe due to the fact I am just getting myself used to the machine. During a wash you can select Fast Iron, which makes the clothes less creased, Extra Spin an option which I have been selecting, and you can set the washing machine to start at a particular time. The clothes howev er have looked very clean, I can’t believe how clean the whites have been I don’t think my old washing machine cleaned them as much. The first time I used the washing machine I really was shocked how well it cleaned and still I can see the difference. The washing machine is a standard fit as the sales assistance said and is very easy to fit in. Although, many of the stores do offer the connection service for a fee. Ask when you buy. Overall I am very happy with this buy I saved over £100 on the washing machine as I bought it in the sales and it does its job really well even though I am still finding my feet with all the setting. You also get 1 year guarantee and the option of extending that and it comes with a 5 year part guarantee but make sure you send the form off within 30 days of your purchase.
