Advantages: looks good, good price
Disadvantages: inferior parts
I bought the tumble dryer in April 2001 and the machine intially worked very well. Unfortunately in Dec 02 the machine started to make a terrible scraping noise as if metal was touching metal. Since the warranty had run out some 8 months previous, I decided to have a look inside the machine as I suspected the bearings to be the problem. When I removed the drum, I was amazed to find the rear of the drum had been held in place by a rectangular bracket which appeared to be made out of a hard plastic. The spindle coming out of the rear of the drum slotted into a hole in the bracket. The bracket appears to have melted away at the bottom with the result that the drum although still rotating, had dropped and was now touching the back of the tumble dryer, hence the scraping noise of metal on metal. Trying to get a replacement part was just as disappointing, especially as I wasn't sure what to call it. After numerous unsuccessful phone calls, I managed to find a local spares shop that could order a rear bearing. However this turned out to be a plastic circle with a hole in with no means of securing it to the tumble dryer dish. We had another look at the diagram in the shop and the assistant then ordered a bearing clamp. Unfortunately this turned out to be the piece of metal that is riveted to the back of the drum, not what I needed. I visited the shop and was shown the diagram for the TV30. The bracket doesn't even show up on the diagram. Even if I find the correct spare part, I don't know how long that will last before it wears away. I think I'll cut my losses and buy another one, no not a Hoover!

- 06/02/03 Hiya and welcome to dooyoo!
How terribly frustrating for you!
Not a bad first op but more detail and a bit more background about the product (rather than just what's wrong with it) will get you better ratings and therefore more reads in the long run.
Hope you have fun here ;) |
