Advantages: large load, condender model
Disadvantages: puts out a lot of heat, long cycle times
I purchased this machine about two years ago now (alongside my zanussi washer {see separate review} and I can honestly say it is faultless. Up until January this year I ran a pub with a busy restaurant attached to it. The dryer had been used to dry all of the following loads of laundry on a daily basis:
This compromised of:
3 x 95* cotton washes a day
2 x 60* cotton washes a day
4 x 50* synthetic washes a day
3 x 40* cotton quick washes a day
and yes, the machine was on from when the cleaner arrived at 05:30 am until I went to bed, usually at midnight!
Now it dries about five times a week, and is still running well.
However it does take a long long time to dry anything. I’m talking two hours to dry a 6kg load of towels, spun at 1600 rpm for 12 minutes!
And it also puts out a tremendous amount of heat – so much so that it turns my central heating thermostat off!
It is also very nosiy when running - almost noiser than my washer on a fast spin
The water bottle holds about 5 litres of water which, although it is advised to empty every cycle, I never bother. I just do it when the light comes on to tell me to do so.
It also has a handy clean filter light, so again I only clean the filter as and when this comes on and not every cycle.
Hotpoint claim that their "Aquarius Sensor" turns off the heaters as the clothes dry. This is rubbish and the machine turns the heaters off when the load overheats, not when it senses the clothes are dry! Dont believe a word of that
But for £199 in the Curry’s sale I really cannot complain about this machine at all.
The only thing that’s gone wrong is the on/off start button has broken. I fixed this myself by permanently gluing it on!! Saved me £85 for a new switch and fitting from Hotpoint. But based on it’s usage in a commercial environment I think a switch is a little mercy to have failed
I would recommend it to anyone that wanted a good, solid, basic, dependable dryer

- 24/11/05 My Hotpoint TDC30 also has a fault with its work service top, after about 13 mounths old it started to crack on the plastic surround near the front as if the plastic is shrinking. Have informed Hotpoint of this problum as ive come across a 2nd Hotpoint TCD30 with the same fault. but they will not help at all unless we pay lots of money for an engineer to call and replace it. This is a manufacturing fault in my opinion. Please let me know if you have got the same fault. I found Hotpoint vary unhelpfull when i made them aware of this fault.
And its a bit noisy too... |
