Hotpoint WD440G Washer Dryer

Because of space limitations in our utility room it is essential for us to have a washer dryer. I spent a couple of weeks researching current models (march 2007) by going into stores and looking online at reviews and what was available. Falling within our budget the Hotpoint WD440G (in silver) matched most closely with our needs.

There is always a trade off between the washers performance and its ability to dry when a washer dryer is purchased but having had this item for over a month I am pleased overall with it.

Washing wise (A energy rated) It is excellent. It has a couple of quick was cycles which are useful as well as a wide number of different settings suitable for pretty much anything you might want to throw its way.

The machine states that it will handle 5kg of laundry for washing, as well as 5kg of laundry for drying. This does not mean however that you can put a full load of 5kg in and then get that 5kg of washing dried - due to the weight increase you have to take into account when laundry is wet, you’ll need to split your load roughly into halves to get them dried efficiently.

The quality of drying is not bad (B energy rated), although it does take that bit longer than a stand-alone tumble dryer. I try to dry clothes outside or on radiators whenever possible though and only tend to use a tumble dryer on warm wet days.

The washer dryer is very easy to use, (I don’t do reading manuals) and the lights on the front help by indicating where the machine is in its cycle. I’ve had no problems and no real complaints, the only thing I have found that after drying a kingsize duvet cover and four pillowcase, when I opened the door, it was exceedingly and burnt my hand so take care (more down to me being dozy rather than a flaw with the actual machine though!).

If you rely heavily on a tumble dryer (i.e. several times a week) then I would suggest that spending a bit more might get you faster drying times, however, I am very happy overall with my purchase and have no qualms in recommending it.

Summary: Good purchase that I am pleased with and would recommend to anyone
