A washing machine? Thought it was Hotpoint the Ripper. (Hotpoint WM64)

Advantages: Erm, well, none

Disadvantages: "5.5kg Drum" - yeah right, Unreliable mechanical controls, Breaks down every 5 minutes and practically everything else!

Seeming as our old AEG washing machine was 17 years old and started to break down every five minutes, we thought that buying the Hotpoint WM64 (a new model at it's time - about 1997) would be a wise choice. Oh no! We certainly made a mistake there!

So what's the machine like?
Rubbish

The controls?
Easy to use mechanical operation that has had to be replaced 3 times in the last 4 years we've had it.

Styling?
Nice black contouredd control panel - nice for it's time but plasticky

Operation?
WHIRR WHIRR SWOOSH SWOOSH GURGLE GURGLE GURGLE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

Another thing is the drum rated at 5.5kg. It is tiny. My old AEG was rated at 4.5kg I think and the drum was bigger! Also, the wash paddles on the Hotpoint are sharp and rip clothes - as well as the holes.

The final '1200rpm' spin - yeah right. This machine is so rubbish that it can only spin at 1200rpm for about 10 seconds at the end of a 800rpm spin. And the selector dial doesn't work.

I an generally displeased with the machine and think that I'll be buying one real soon - I might buy the AEG 1100 model from Comet I was looking at when I bought my AEG dishwasher (read the review for that). AEG's are simply the best manufacturer around for a decent price - I'll look at that washing machine again at the weekend.

One word of advice - HOTPOINT IS BAD!
