I will start this review of the Hotpoint WMM39 washing machine with a specification of the machine.
This washing machine is a free standing, fully automatic, front loading washing machine with a 1400 rpm spin speed and a 5.5kg load capacity. This washing machine is 85cm in height and 58cm wide and has been awarded an energy efficiency rating of B for its spin drying efficiency, an A for wash efficiency and an A of energy efficiency. The Hotpoint WMM39 is purely a washing machine and does not have a drying facility.
I have been using the Hotpoint WMM39 washing machine for the last 3 years and must say it has been a great machine. I got the machine second hand from my now ex father in law who had had it from new (circa. 2002) and it is just as reliable as the day I got it. The only work that has needed to be done on the machine is the carbon brushes needed changing earlier this year, which even for a non-mechanically minded person like myself was a relatively easy task to carry out.
I regularly use all of the different programs on this washing machine from the 26 minute freshen up cycle for lightly soiled garments to the 60 degree cycle for bedding and towels.
The machine has 11 different wash programs labelled from A to L which range from a 95 degree wash down to 30 degree. Here is a list of the different wash programs for the Hotpoint WMM39;
A - 30 degrees, 25 minutes, pre-wash program
B - 95 degrees, 2 hours, for white cotton
C - 60 degrees, 2 hours and 5 minutes, for cotton
D - 40 degrees, 1 hour and 30 minutes, for non-fast colours
E - 30 degrees, 1 hour and 20 minutes, for non-fast colours
F - 50 degrees, 1 hour and 5 minutes, for synthetics
G - 40 degrees, 40 minutes, for acrylics
H - 40 degrees, 1 hour and 15 minutes, wool wash5
J - 30 degrees, 55 minutes, silk wash
K - 35 degrees, 26 minutes, fast wash/freshen up
L - 25 degrees, 45 minutes, hand wash cycle
There is also a rinse and spin, fast spin and slow spin cycles on this machine. All of these cycles are selected using the dial on the machine.
In addition, to the above wash programs there are 5 in wash options that can be selected using the buttons on the front of the machine. These are;
Time Saver - this option can reduce the program time by up to a third, this option is not available on the fast wash, rinse an spin and spin only cycles.
Extra Rinse - this option adds an extra rinse to a program, this option is not available on the pre-wash, wool, hand wash or spin only cycles.
Rinse Hold - using this option will hold the clothes in the final rinse water until you are ready to complete the cycle. This option is not available on the pre-wash, hand wash, wool or spin only cycles.
Reduce creases - this option reduces the wash action and spin speed to reduce creases in clothes, this option is not available on wool or hand wash cycles.
Mini load - this option is for when your doing a smaller load of laundry. This option not only reduces the washing time but also reduces the water and energy consumption by up to 50%.
I have had no problems with this washing machine and have found it is equally as good at handling large loads, such as towel washes or bedding, as it is at handling smaller lingerie loads. This machine has handled everything I have thrown at it, from mud-caked football kits to baby clothes. I would be lost without this machine and *touch wood* it will stand me in good stead for years to come.
