When my husband and I first moved in together many years ago, we didnt really have much, except a tatty sofa, creaky old bed, and a rickety, unreliable washing machine. Once we kitted out our first home with all the other essentials, I splurged out £500 on a shining new washing machine. That then promptly died, ooooh, about 3 months after the gurantee on it ran out!
By this time, we had had a fe appliances conk out on us and were starting to think we were a bit doomed in the electrical department! So, we decided that if they werent going to last too long, then we werent spending much on them!
Cue spending around £290 on this Indesit washing machine about 6 years ago. If I remember rightly we managed to catch it on sale, so splashed out and bought an extra years gurantee on top of the 2 year on it came with - just in case!
Now, apparently this is something only women do, but the day it was delivered, I was rather excited, and I couldnt wait for it to be installed so I could give it a test spin! The men who delivered it managed to get it plumbed in in just a few short minutes, so as soon as they were gone I loaded it up!
The machine holds a 5kg load - now I have no idea how much my laundry weighs, I just know how much OF it there is! Back when we first got the machine, there was just me, my husband and our eldest daughter, and I remember it seemed to take ages for me to be able to fill the machine right up and only needing to use it a couple of times a week. Now, we have 2 more daughters, and it doesnt take very long at all for it to be full, but it still holds a fair lot!!
Now, one of the reasons this machine works so well for me, is because it is simple to use! I look at machines nowadays with their digital bits and numerous dials and codes and buttons, and it baffles me how anyone gets their clothes clean!!! This machine has a list printed on the front of all the different loads and what programme numbers they are and what temperature is needed! We have a standard section, which includes your pre wash, whites, coloureds and so on.
The best section (and the one most often used in my house!) is the Time for you section, with programmes called Flash .... , including Flash Clean, which gets a whole load washed in an hour!
It also includes a sports section of programmes, which have come in handy when getting my husbands smelly football kit cleaned!
These lists are printed on the door of the draw for your powders and fabric softeners The draw is also easy to remove and clean.
Across the top of the machine opposite the draw, are 2 dials. One has numbers that correspond with the programmes, so just turn the dial to the number of the program you want to run. At the end of the numbers are another 3 options, for your spin, rinse and drains. The other dial is the temperature dial, going from 30 to 90 degrees.
There are 4 buttons across the top of the dials, these give you options to delay the time of your load - just across from the dials are 4 lights that go down, these usually light up in a way to let you know roughly how long a laod has to go, but if you press the delay button, they also have time markings alongside them, and you can delay for 2 hours, 4, 6 or 9. There are a few more buttons, stain removal, easy iron and extra rinse. Being honest, I have never used these buttons so wouldnt have a clue if they work!
The only 2 other buttons on there are the power button, and the standby button. These light up the board to let you know if the machine is on standby - which is shown by a flashing red light, or a load is being washed, when the lights show green at various stages of the wash.
In all honesty I have never, in 6 years had a problem with this machine. Considering how much washing my delightful children generate, this machine should be groaning when it sees me coming, but it remains reliable still!
I live in a very hard water area, so I do take care of it by regulalry descaling it, maybe it appreciates the sentiment!!
For the price we paid for this machine I didt expect it to last till the end of the gurantee, but its shocked me by continuing to clean my clothes well, never broken down, and never had a single problem with it (watch me curse myself now!!) The only thing wrong with it is that the door is cracked and may need replacing in the near future as the poor thing was dropped when we moved, but its still going strong! And when this machine does give up on us, I would be looking to replace it with another Indesit machine.

had my w103uk for 8 years. performed very well, washed 2 kids worth of nappies over the years!i think the drum bearings have just gone, but i paid £170 for it 8 yrs ago so its been great! and only £20 for new bearings..heres to another 8 years :))
I received this washing machine second hand but it was only one month old. I bought it for a very modest price because it was an insurance write off, and it was found to be a design fault that could be easily repaired. However after I bought it, more faults started appearing as time went by, until finally the bearings have gone in the main drum, and I think it is now time to replace it instead of paying to have it repaired again.
Yes I would agree it is very easy to use, and has very un complicted controls, however, this particular version seems to have been doomed from the start with design faults that would eventually be it's demise.
Never mind Indesit,...better luck next time?
We have this machine and intermittantly after the cycle has finished the timer just keeps slowly clicking around and around. Called customer service who said just to turn it off and on again at the mains, which worked for a while but it's now doing it again. On top of that the temperature knob has just broken off with no force applied. It just fell to bits and left me with a handful of plastic. A poor design overall it's cheap but shoddy.
I bought this washing machine in October 2001. For the first six months it was great although the washing cycle was a little slow. I do at least two washes a day. In April there was an almighty crash and I called the repair man out. I was told that the drum had gone, plus the bearings AND the heating element. I then had to wait SIX weeks until it was repaired as Merloni Domestic Appliances told me the parts were not in stock. After having it repaired, it made a terrible banging noise so I called the repair man again. This time a counterweight had broken. The following day the machine broke again, this time the dial was continually turning but not doing anything. DON'T BUY IT!!
