“ Brand: Indesit „
The three main reasons I bought this Indesit washing machine was one it was cheap! Two so I could buy it 'off the shelf' at B&Q without waiting around for weeks for a delivery and three it was the right size for where I wanted to put it. I purchased it for £280.
I did not consider the washing side of it as I just wanted to wash my clothes and having had a previous washing machine of a Bosch standard - thought they were all that good - the only difference being the price. Oh how wrong I was ! How I would have liked to have seen some reviews before splashing out on this said washing machine.
Problems with the machine were it was extremely noisy when washing, it has variable spin speeds (maximum of 1100 RPMs)- which sounded like an aeroplane taking off and once it really got going it started creeping out of its said cubby hole and 'walking to the middle of the room' or possibly trying to escape the confines of my tiny kitchen.
Now we come to the important bit- the wash results - the drum seemed very small when adding in the clothes even though it has a half-load option - you might a couple of hankies in there on that option however it does boast a maximum wash load of 5.5 kgs. The items would come out still stained even all the settings from 30 to 90 degrees and of course the latter resulted in my clothes shrunking to the size of a smurf's outfit. Also the items came out so scrunched up they took an age to iron. The machine was clunky, noisy, not that great at washing and the door creaked to boot when putting items in.
All in all it lasted approximately 2 years before it broke down - the door got stuck as the element went - it did not drain out and the water ultimately drenched my kitchen floor(during the Christmas period) resulting in no repair guy to come out and weeks of washing piling up. When he did turn up to fix it he said he couldn't fix it so it was basically good for the tip (my words not the engineers) but that was the gist of the conversation.
Somewhat more wisely the next purchase I did my research and went for the Which guides winning washing machine of the year - which was a Bosch - the difference was like a breath of fresh air compared to the Indesit - so quiet and washing comes out great even on a low temp wash.
The Indesit is energy efficient alright being a grade A and it does have an LED display and various wash cycles (20 all in) including a quick wash and a delay timer also came with a 12 month labour guarantee and 5 years parts guarantee but apparently not on the particular part I needed to fix it.
The pluses are it is one of the cheapest machines on the market and it was easy to order and get delivered in a matter of hours. However the adage 'you get what you pay for' really applied on this one.
Would I buy again? No - too noisy, clumpy, creak and unreliable I would rather wash by hand in the sink or even a stone by the river. Harsh but true.
You can currently purchase it if you really want too at around the £270 in places like B&Q.
I have had this washing machine for around five to six years now and as a family of six it is in constant use (at least one or two loads a day).
It is a budget machine in white with the usual dials - on/off switch, wash dial (with a menu on the powder tray so you know what wash to put it on!) and a temperature dial. It also has 4 buttons for extrs rinse, stain remover, easy iron and delay timer. The powder/liquid tray is standard size and pulls out on the left hand side of the washing machine. Im not sure what size the drum is but its normal sized not one of the large ones.
When in use the washine machine does not jump around and is qite smooth although when spinning it can get very noisy - we have to put the tv sound up when its spinning and thats with the kitchen door shut so not a machine to have if you wash during the night cos you would wake the whole street! The programmes do tend to take a while, I have never found the quick wash on it as the instructions are not easy to understand and there is no quick wash button that you magically press which is disappointing. Other than that though it cleans well and up until recently was very reliable.
Other than those mentioned above I have had no problems until recently which is not bad considering if you work it out its done around 4000 washes. Recently the water has not been heating so the washes havent been as clean as they should be. I think the thermostate must have gone. My not very DIY husband decided to fix this by attaching the pipe to the hot water tap so now all washing is boil washed. Its very clean and my son is impressed as he is getting all dads rugby shirts as they have gone from a size large to fitting a six year old. we have now decided to get a new machine.
We paid £199 for it at comet.
I would recommend this to anyone as its lasted well and is a great price, the only reason I am not getting one the same is because I want a black one!!
I have never been very impressed with Indesit as a brand.
Basically they are entry level, budget end brand, so I was interested to see how I got on with this particular washer.
On first impressions (i opted for the standard 40c quick wash for 35 mins) i was impressed on the start up time, there seemed to be no preliminary fussing around, just straight into the wash cycle.
When it comes to the noise levels, I found the indesit to be relatively quiet, put it this way you could talk at a normal volume right near it and still be heard fine.
The machine itself is quite straighforward, and easy to use.
You're talking to someone who see a washing machine as a electrical appliance to wash your clothes, not a friend for life!
Given the fact that every engineer worth his of her salt reccomends you buy Bosch, miele (expensive!) or Zanussi, and will warn you the bearings will fail within the first 3 years, people become sadly blase when it comes to buying washing machines. But, dont despair this cheap and chearfull model does the job, and you cant reallt ask for more than that!
I was the proud owner of an Indesit washing machine for the past 13 years. This machine is my second Indesit. The first was only replaced because I was buying a new house a replacing everything. My first indesit never broke down, never through a tantrum and did the job it was intended to do efficiently. I wish I hadn't bothered to replace it as I am positive that it would stil be going now 13 half years down the line, and saved me a few quid. Having said that I am confident that this new model will be just as good a work horse as the last and I look forward to hot having to replace it in another 13 years!!
