Advantages: Price, Eco Sense Feature
Disadvantages: Read this opinion!
I bought my Indesit 1295 W 9 months ago (June 2000) when I moved house. I was attracted to it for a number of reasons: 1. At £300 it was a reasonable price. 2. Being an *eco-sense* model, it appealed to my nature of conservation of resources and minimum power consumption. 3. It is a washer/dryer combined and that is good as I don't have the space to have separate products. 4. Parts (apart from rubber, plastic and glass) have a 5 year manufacturer's guarantee on them. There is not much to say about looks.. it looks like any other washing machine really. Like all modern machines, it doesn't use as much water as the older models so you have to be careful you don't put too many items into it as you are in danger of there not being enough water to rinse the powder out of the garments and that can lead to skin irritations. I think also with the washing machines of today - they are not built to last like the machines of old. We all welcome lower prices and machines that spin much faster but at what quality loss and machine life reduction respectively? All was going well until last weekend. On a spin cycle it suddenly started making an absolutley awful noise and then there was a BANG!!! and my flat filled up with the most acrid electrical burning smell - the motor had burnt out. Despite being still under the manufacturer's guarantee, it took a week to get an engineer out. He arrived yesterday, 31st March and granted, he replaced the motor and was gone within 20 minutes. I used it about an hour after he left and all was well until the spin... that absolutely awful noise reared it's head again. I phoned up the Help Line.. engineer has left the area and couldn't revisit until Monday 2nd April with no time guaranteed; they couldn't even say morning or afternoon. So, I have now been caused to drop plans for 2 whole days while I sit around waiting for what seems to be a faulty product to be rep
aired. I will add to this opinion of Indesit Ariston when he has visited tomorrow. Monday 2nd April - UPDATE. Engineer has just been. He reckoned he knew what it was before he turned up, took the top off the machine and found out it wasn't that at all. He tightened this and tapped that and then tested it; the noise was still there. He said the drum has gone and needs a new one.. 4 days to order the part and he is coming again on Saturday with a colleague to strip the machine completely and fit the new part. That will then be 2 weeks since the first problem. Further update on Saturday.. Sunday 8th April - UPDATE. They pitched up early and took about 2 hours to complete the drum replacement. So far the machine has performed perfectly so I am grateful to the engineers for that. Hopefully that will be the end of the story.
