My old Servis washer dryer finally bit the dust after 7 years and isn't it typical just when money is tight. So I went out in search of a replacement. Main buying criteria - price.

When I found the Indesit WIDL 102 I was pleased to see it in the same price range as my old machine. I paid £279.00 including £20.00 off in the sales for my new washer dryer.

After my hubby had installed it there was definately a wow factor involved. It does so much more than my old Servis and has many more functions I am still trying them out a week later.

The first thing I noticed was - where's the water! It uses far less than any other machine I've used and washes cleaner. The second feature that amazed me is how quiet it is, my old Servis used to 'growl' loudly on the drying cycle, the Indesit is virtually silent. If i shut the kitchen door I cannot hear it at all.

Another great benefit, when the washing cycle is complete the dryer comes on automatically. My old machine didn't do this so if I put on a wash before I went out to work, I came home to wet washing waiting for me to push in a half load button before setting the analogue dryer timer. The Indesit has a digital timer so i don't have to turn the dial round every time I use it. It also has a ironing setting so shirts aren't completely bone dry when they come out of the dryer.

There are a couple of options available for clothes that cannot be tumble dried too.

Unlike my old machine the wash temperature settings are on a separate dial to the washing programme. So a slight disadvantage remembering to check the temperature before doing a different wash. Another disadvantage I found - the dryer door does get hot, so be careful if you have any toddlers running about. But it does have a door lock on the drying cycle which is an improved safety feature.

The Indesit has a 5kg wash load which handles my family washing brilliantly. The case is smaller than my old Servis - which used to stand out from the work surface - so again it has exceeded my expectations.

The installation was straight forward, this machine uses cold fill only and the manual is easy to understand.

I think the Indesit WIDL 102 is superb value for money if you are looking for a budget washer dryer to cope with the needs of a growing family.
