Advantages: Cleans well, Easy to use, Quiet
Disadvantages: None I can think of
I was recently in the position of having to buy a new washing machine when my old one decided to die a slow and painful (for me) death. I did quite a bit of research on which model to buy, consulting web sites, Which magazine etc. However, the underlying fact was “I need a cheap one that works”. Where I work I am able to obtain certain products at discount and the manufacturer LG is one of them. Their WD-1243H machine had received quite good write-ups so I decided that I would buy one of these. They retail at about £450 and I could get one for £300. Firstly it is a very nice looking machine. It is predominantly white, but has a chrome door. All the controls are push button and LCD. The drum is larger than most machines at 60 litres or 7kgs. I found that for every three washes I did before, this machine only needed to do two. It is very easy to use. There is an electronic door open button and each setting can be individually controlled. You can set pre or main wash, coloureds, whites etc, spin speed (600/800/1000/1200rpm) and water temperature. If you can’t be bothered to set all these, you just press the start button and it will automatically default to a coloured wash at 40 degrees and 800 spin speed. Also if you just select the whites wash for example it will set all the other controls, although you can over-ride them if needed. There is an LCD display which lets you know how long the cycle has to run which I find very handy. Most cycles run for approx 1hr 45 mins, but there is a rapid wash which lasts about 50 minutes. I find the machine is quiet and it does not do a dance around the kitchen when laden with towels etc. Apparently it has something called Auto Balancing to stop this – it works!. It also has Fuzzy Logic for optimum performance – I’m sure this is very important! Another thing it boasts is that it has a brushless DC motor, which never needs replacing, apparently this is a very go
od thing. I have been using this machine for about a month now and haven’t found anything to moan about. It works well, it cleans the clothes well and is quiet in operation. The larger drum means that I do fewer washes which is obviously cheaper and quicker. The spin speeds are good too as with towels etc I can get them very dry – especially good if I need to use the tumble dryer on rainy days as I don’t have to have it on for long (cheaper). I can recommend this machine, but only time will tell if it continues to please!

- 24/06/03 I live in the US and am seeking a front loading LG with the controls on the front, so it will go under a counter The photos I see on this review indicate that is what you have. In the states, LG says this model is not available. Will you confirm whether the controls on your model are on top or on the front? YOu can email me at sarahglowder@hotmail.com. Thanks. |

- 13/08/01 Good op! You gave all the information I would need for this product, although why would any company waste fuzzy logic technology on a washing machine is beyond me. :-) |
