Advantages: 1100 spin, energy efficient (somewhat), a good performer (...), it looks standard, and it does your average joe jobs well
Disadvantages: Programmes take longer than older washing machines to reach spin; and the mandatory constant filter rinsing is a drag
3 washing machines have lived in our house. A Hoover one during the 80's, another Hoover one during the 90's, and now we have a Servis one upon the near-demise of the last one. This Servis machine (which retails for around £250 in Littlewood's Index's current catalogue) is one of the cheapest models awailable. The cheapest one being the same machine at the 900 speed model for a £50 note less. Now, not being too choosy about washing machines, aslong as we got one that was good enough, we got this. It's your 'average' washing machine, with some extra developments in what you can get from the price than a decade ago. It looks like your average washing machine. It's only available in white, has a window door, a powder and liquid compartment, and twiddle-turners to set the temperature and the programme. Easy to use, but still you get a manual with it. We had our machine installed for us, not that it was hard; just heavy, and they removed the old one. Even so all you need to do is some basic plumbing do-da with the hose from your sink, and plug it in to a socket and you're ready to go. All your standard programmes and temperatures are available, so I'm sure all washing conditions are catered for, and of course you can use powders, liquids, or whatever. An annoying thing is that at the foot of the washing machine is a compartment holding a screw-out filter, that needs to be rinsed under a tap after 'every wash' for optimal performance. Our old machines didn't have that; it's no big deal, but it's a small gripe, but I guess maybe that consumer intervention will keep the machine running smoother for longer. Plus you get a free 1yr manufacturer's guarantee. Despite being an 1100 speed machine, we find it takes longer than our old (1000 speed one) to get to the spin (on our average washing needs), this though could just be down to more longer actual wa
shing before the spin. But no doubt even with some energy efficiency, this probably evens out to be the same. Having a 900 speed one then, would take more time and energy. The washing machine is of standard dimensions (and standard weight); and can accomodate the standard load of up to 4.5kg (all a small family and under needs). And well, we've been using the machine for 3 weeks now; and it's great. Our clothes get washed and spun, and, er, that's all we really require. Like most of you non-washing machine techies I'm sure. Obviously if you're not buying a machine yet, but want a budget one you'll look around later for a good budget one then, but if you've got your sights on one for the moment, this might suit you fine. It washes, it's a washing machine, no hassle, and it's cheap. Bread and butter is nice. Just don't bother replacing this over a fully functioning one. It's not the Dyson 2-drum thing or anything; and the price of that is rather ludicrous enough. Also on an unrelated note, I composed a bit of music as an ode to the 1100 speed of this (somewhat; I just wanted a title which had a number in it; aesthetic eh?) machine, so if you're interested in it (and it is actually nothing to do with this product in content) check out my site. You can't beat a good plug. And yes, one comes with this machine (yes, literally, too). mo79.co.uk - GSOH 1100 (I know it doesn't make sense). ...I should work for QVC maybe? I waffle enough; and there's an op about a new cooker we have too, on the way.
