Advantages: nice machine when it works

Disadvantages: After Care Service is hard work!!!

Our previous Electrolux washing machine was solidly built and lasted us 13 years through 2 babies (lots of washing!!) but when it finally gave up the ghost we started looking round and decided on a Servis washing machine for £250 (in 2000).

This has only lasted 4 years and keeps cutting out on us halfway through the wash cycle.

6th April 2004 - I telephoned Servis (as we have an extended guarantee from Comet). I was told that an engineer would call the next day (7th April) excellent!!. Received a phone call 2 hours later from the engineer to say that he could not come on the 7th April could he come on the 8th (still OK by me!!).

8th April 2004 ? After waiting in all day received a phone call from the engineer late afternoon asking me to describe the problem, which I did. ?Oh he said that is a common problem with these new electronic machines I know what part you need and will order it. Should be in stock by early w/c 19th April.

26th April 2004 ? Rang up Servis and was told that they would chase up the engineer and ring me back

28th April 2004 ? Rang up Servis and was told that they would chase up the engineer and find out what was going on.

30th April 2004 ? Rang up Servis and was told that it has been chased up and the part is not in stock but would be coming in 7/10 days!!!!!.

4th May 2004 ? 4 weeks later I still have no working washing machine. No one has actually come round to look at my machine and my worry is that when my part is eventually in stock that it will not even cure the problem!!!!

11th May 2004 - Without any warning an engineer turned up at the door and said he had our part (HOORAY!!) went to fit it, and what a surprise, it is the wrong part. He ended up taking the whole machine away saying it would be quicker to get the problem sorted out.

17th May 2004 - 6 weeks and I still have no washing machine (My family is getting fed up doing all our washing!!!)


Spoke to Comet who are not much help at all the girl on the phone told me I had to ring Servis (DOH!!).

What appaling after care service. Total lack of communication on their part. I paid £150 for an extended guarantee and it has taken over 6 weeks to get the machine fixed (Its still not fixed as I write this!!).

I will never pay for an extend guarantee again as I could have paid someone to come out and fix it immediately rather than have to wait for their engineer.

Shop around carefully before you buy a Servis washing machine ? cheaper is not always better.

After the lack of after care service I will never buy from Servis again. I will try a different make.

having waited in for a non existent engineer, I used the small claims court on line service www.moneyclaim.gov.uk and Servis paid me £50 plus the court fee of £30.

If all Servis customers did this for missed appointments, Servis might just get its act together and only make those it could keep. And why shouyldn't customers be recompensed for wasted days off?
