Advantages: Can wash a large amount, energy effiecieny
Disadvantages: See above!
I purchased a Servis Washer Dryer in April 2003. I previously had a Hotpoint that had given me years of faithful washing and drying (and a lot of it I do too) but I was having a new kitchen fitted and decided to abandon my faithful Hotpoint and treat myself to a new machine. When I went into the store that I purchased it from, I very nearly bought another Hotpoint until the Sales person came over – as it happens I was stood next to the Servis machine that was on display and decided to ask the person about it. The Sales Assistant told me that it could wash an incredible 6kg (wow I thought) and could also dry the whole amount, therefore enabling me to set the machine to wash and dry all in one go (normally with Washer Dryers, you have to half the wash load to dry it). I was chuffed to bits – just what I needed, it’d save me time and money by being able to wash and dry in one go. I decided straight away to purchase one. (I’ve gotta be totally honest and you can slap my wrists for poor review writing but I can’t remember exactly how much I paid for it – it was £300 and something, but hey, who cares how much it was, just think of all that money I’d be saving by being able to do my wash and dry load in one go!) I had my lovely new kitchen fitted and my brand new machine had arrived and was installed. I got the instruction book out and started to read through it. I have to say that it is the worst set of instructions I have ever come across in my life, a six year old could have written them better. There were spelling mistakes, words missed out and that’s just the start. I managed to get the washing machine working and then thought great – I can do my drying in one go. Imagine my complete dismay when I read that you have to half the load to do the drying. I was gutted, my wonderful new machine had been sold to me not with a free pack of washing powder – oh no! It had been sold to me w
ith a pack of lies! Once I’d gotten over the disappointment I decided to do my drying, I couldn’t understand it when the cycle was complete that my clothes were still wet. I consulted the manual and I had set the machine up correctly, I was puzzled. Luckily, thanks to the brain of my hubby we worked out what was going wrong. The dial was in the wrong place! The manual not only had tons of spelling errors, but some of the diagrams were wrong too! My Washer Dryer has been part of my life for nine months now and apart from some mysterious blue dye which came out onto some of my clothes when I didn’t even have anything blue in the machine (the clothes were ruined but I cleaned out the filter and it seems to have been okay since) and the fact that the dryer doesn’t seem to be working properly, it’s getting hot but not fully drying the clothes (the engineer is due out) it seems to be just about working. I’ve gotta say in it’s defence that the washing cycle is okay, it’s got a fast spin on it and you can get loads of clothes in there and it’s quite energy effiecient. I’ve just printed off a picture of a Hotpoint machine that I’m looking lovingly at, all I’ve gotta do it convince the hubby! Wish me luck! ***UPDATE*** Forget anything nice that I said about this washing machine, it is the biggest waste of money ever! After numerous visits from the Engineer about the dryer (see above) they finally decided to replace the dryer unit, it was totally clogged up with fluff. The Engineer told me this was most likely to happen again! After the unit was replaced the dryer then started making a funny scratching type noise. I called the engineer out once again and he didn't even come out, he phoned me up and told me that I can have the machine replaced. I went along to Curry's who said that Servis have given them permission to replace it. I was totally de
lighted when they said that I didn't even have to choose another Servis one, I could pick any one I wanted and just pay the difference in price if there was one. So I now have a brand new Hotpoint machine on it's way to my house, I'm chuffed to bits and so's the hubby because I've finally stopped moaning about it and we only had to pay £60 difference so it didn't cost him as much as he thought!!!!

- 23/06/04 Zanussi produce some excellent washer-dryers with electronic controls. rather than setting the dryer to dry on a timer you can select the degree of dryness you prefer as well as selecting a drying time. I have a zanussi washing machine (one of the XC models) and it is the best machine i ever bought. Even though it is a washing machine and not a washer dryer they are reliable and are made by the electrolux group who also make aeg appliances (have the same componants) great review
