don't bother! (Servis M9713 XXL)

Advantages: will wash and dry in 1 go, 5kg drying load, quiet

Disadvantages: unreliable, downright dangerous, badly made

I bought a brand new washer dryer for 3 reasons

1 I had a new baby on the way and wanted to use washable nappies

2 It takes up less space than seperate washer and dryer

3 having rented a washing machine for 7 years without any problems I presumed buying a machine would pay for itself in 2 years worth of saved rental and therafter it would be free!

I went for this model because it washed 6kg load and dried 5kg and also has the option of washing and drying in one complete cycle - excellent i thought i can put the nappies on before i go to bed and they will be washed and dried in the morning. It as also one of the most energy effiecient models and servis are a fairly green company according to the good shopping guideand using night time economy 7 electricity would save me a packet!

HOWEVER!!!! 4 months into using the machine...

an acrid smell filled the air and we realised the washing machine was emiting smoke, we unplugged it and called an engineer - when he cae a few days later he took the machine apart to find a burnt out part - aparently a machine made part and we got the 1 in 1000 that it gets wrong. needless to say if i had not fallen asleep before the i put the nappies onto wash the night before it would have caused a house fire and without smoke alarms well need i say more.

servis replaced the machine with a brand new one ...fast forward 5 months

our once quiet machine was getting noisier and noisier defeting the night time washing objective and positively waking up the neighbours - a sound i can only describe as a car driving along with its exhaust scraping along the floor! When i put a load of drying on for 3 hours and they were wetter than when they started i called out the engineeer. This time he removed the largest element (like in a kettle)you have ever seen and a huge part it was meant to be attached to the insode of sheared into pieces- never seen this before he said can't i
magine how that happened and

servis went on to replace it with a brand new part...fast forward 4 months

noises again - a variety this time - out with the engineer and this time not only has the element sheared off - so have the two large bolts holding the drum in place - damaging the back panel and in total replacement parts would cost £700+ (roughly the price of 2 brand new machines) Luckily due to the unreliabilty i experienced i had paid 60 insurance against breakdown and when offered a relacement machine upto the same value i decided not to bother with another servis and instead went for a zanussi!
