Advantages: trustworthy
Disadvantages: only dry half loads
I am going to write about an old friend of mine, he's been in my family for......oooooh 11yrs now. I purchased him in 1990, just before christmas, when me my other half and our little girl moved into of first home. We only had a small kitchen, so the only option for us was to go for a washer dryer. Comeing from my moms i was used to everything being washed and then dryed in the dryer, so having a dryer was very important to me. We bought old trusty from the MEB, well this is the local electric store which no longer is there, I think they go by the name of N Power now. We told the assistant it had to be a washer dryer to which she said she did'nt advice us to have because it is no good for a family, this being that you can only dry half a load. Going against her advice we chose a service washer dryer. It is your basic white front washer with brown drawer. IT has a rinse hold button, so your clothes wont come out so creased, a half load button, which is used when you want to wash half a load of washing, also you use this button when you use the dryer, a spin cancel button, and a on and off button. This button you have to press to turn on, but also you have to press to turn off the machine and then you ahve to wait three minutes to open the door, which is a pain, as i was used to my moms machine which you could open after three minutes of the actual machine finishing it's loads. But it is still a good safety feature all the same. It has a filter at the front at the bottom, which is very easy to clean as it has a little door to open then a knob which you turn and pull the filter out. I know you have to almost take my moms machine to pieces to clean her filter so this was great. The clothes come out brilliantly still to this day, it has'nt rusted at all and is still as good as the day we bought it! And best of all ive never had a day's bother with it other than
forgetting to wash the filter out!! But ive never had to have a service man out to it, never had to have the rubber rim changed or anything. I know the day will come when we have to say goodbye to old trusty, and knowing my luck now ive bragged about her the day will probably come sooner, but when it does come we will definatley be buying another service washer. How yes I have tò mention a bad part about it, I hate to say that the assistant was right, you can only dry half a load, which was a pain, but i dry washing on the line, or on a clothes airer, and if i need something dry in a hurry i know i can use my old trusty to dry half a load for me.

- 08/11/01 I miss having a tumble dryer. I might try one of these combined efforts next time I need to get a new washing machine. Hopefully, that's a long way off yet. |
