Advantages: Very Quiet

Disadvantages: None

When I first got married money was tight so a washing machine was way down our list of priorities however when my son was a year old I thought it time to invest in an automatic washing machine. We chose a Zanussi and it did yeoman service but after nineteen year of three loads a day it decided it needed to retire. Please don’t ask where the three loads come from some days I think I do it for the entire street. So with a rattle and a clunk it gave up. I phoned the repair man (can you hear him laughing) who politely informed me a machine that age was not worth repairing as the parts were no longer available.

So off I went in search of a new machine. After the great service I had from my old one it was hard not to choose another Zanussi but we were slightly restricted in choice because it had to fit the available space. We plumped for the FLS 1383 W, which fitted the bill height 85cm, width 60-cm and depth 58-cm and was very conveniently in the sale at the time. It was reduced from £311 and we paid £264.99, which included next day delivery. God bless the Coop.

Next morning the machine was delivered and my old friend taken away by the deliverymen. I was raring to go but had to wait on my husband plumbing it in. Once installed handbook to the ready I was all set.

It had a lovely clear control panel. On the left hand side is a list of programme guides no need for the book after all. Under this is your detergent drawer next to that there are four buttons.

First ----- The on off button

Second ----- The heavy soiled button. This means the machine will take in cold water only and heat to the required programme temperature. This quote “improves the overall wash performance”

Third ------The rinse hold button Press this if you want the cycle to stop with water in the drum this prevents creasing if the clothes are left damp in the drum. Then simply press the button again and the machine will continue.

Fourth ----Bio Button by pressing this button during certain cycles the water temperature will remain at 40 degrees for an extra ten minutes allowing “ greater washing efficiency”

Moving further along you come to
The spin speed selector dial. ------ This is an easy to move dial. This machine can do a range of different spins from 500 right up to 1250. Wow my old friend only did an 800 spin speed so improvement straight away.

Mains on light ------ Just shows the machine is on and working.

Programme selector dials-------Just turn the dial clockwise and choice your programme.

The door was easy to open by just pulling the handle outwards. I loaded my towels and closed the door. The drawer was the same as my last one with a dispenser for pre wash, main wash and fabric softener so once filled with the required amount I was ready to choose the programme and spin speed. Next step depress the on off switch and away you go.

The one thing I noticed straight away was how quiet it was hardly a murmur the old girl sounded like she was off for a burn up the M1.

At the end of the programme the machine automatically spins very very quietly and then switches off. The door opens easily and its time to peg out the laundry.

After each wash it is advisable to leave the door open for a little while this helps prevent mould, stagnant smells forming and also helps preserve the door seal.

The machine comes with one years manufacturers warranty and also an easy to read hand book which gives lots of symptoms and possible causes. It also gives you Service and Spare parts phone number and the address of the customer care department
All in all I am delighted with my new machine and I am hoping this appliance of science will last me another twenty years.

I'm amazed to hear a washing machine we sold is a actually working ;-) Good op and well explained - not sure I care what the spin cycle is like though, so long as it gets my whites white and my browns... err...... white! :) Steve
