We bought this washing machine when we moved into our house in 2007. We bought it as we'd read good reviews about Zanussi products and this seemed to have the spec we needed at a good price.
On the whole the machine has been fairly good. It gets a lot of use and has been reliable.
Good points are it's a 1400 spin and it has a large drum more than capable of accommodating a huge family sized load of washing. It has a half load button, a quick wash button (so you can shorten the time of some wash programs) a pre-wash option and a time delay system allowing you to set the wash to start in 2, 4 or 8 hours time. It offers a 95 degree wash - perfect for whites and work clothes. And has a minprogram which is a 30 min wash cycle. It's fairly quiet and is easy to use.
Bad points are it seems to have stopped taking fabric conditioner after about 18 months of use, I believe other reviewers have also commented on this fault. I've got around this by using 2in1 laundry liquid which seems to work just as well.
Mould also forms easily in the water jets in the drawer. Every few weeks I scrub them with an old toothbrush and put the machine on the 95 degree program with soda crystals in the drawer and drum to clean it out.
The economy program takes 2.5 hours, and there's no program indicator to show you the stages of the wash. It would be useful sometimes to know how long you have left!
On the whole it always produces a lovely clean wash - and it's a good machine for the money we could afford at the time (I believe we paid around £220). However for our next one I'd invest a bit more money and get a Bosch. My mum has had hers for years with no problems.
I bought this machine 2 years ago after reading reviews in WHICH online magazine. I decided to buy it from John Lewis, as it was same price as Currys for £227, but with 2 year guarantee.
The delivery was on time. I connected the machine myself and it was up and running in no time.
I used HotPoint washing machine previously for 4 years, so I found Zanussi 1421 bit slow and slient. In HotPoint, it used to take less than hour to wash with standard program. But with Zanussi, it takes around 1:30 minutes. But with its quiet operation, I don't mind if it runs bit longer.
With 1200 max spin, clothes are dry enough to put on laundry line. But I already have a dryer, so I don't care much about this.
Time to time, I had few issues with the machine. Someone put doormat in it and water output was blocked. Not machine's fault. I called the engieer and he fixed that. After that, I check the valve time to time and clean it.
I found this machine OK and nothing extra ordinary about it. It does the job correctly, may be bit slowly. It has A+ enenrgy rating, delay timer, prewash, half-load, quick rinse, quick spin, delicate wash etc facility that can be very useful.
My old, but trusty washing machine broke down for the last time recently, and I was faced with a wide range of choices for its replacement.
My fridge freezer is a Zanussi make, and has always been fine, a friend has a ten year old Zanussi washing machine that still runs perfectly, so it seemed to fit that I should choose this particular make for the new addition in my kitchen.
Wanting a fast spin, this model is a 1600, in the abscence of a tumble dryer, i have not been disappointed by the machines power and ability to wring the clothes without creasing the more delicate or heavy items. The machine is also quieter than expected, and i have forgotton on occaision that it is on.
Perhaps another of its best features is its time delay system, meaning that you can set the devise for running at night time when electricity rates are lower ,or first thing in the morning for optimum freshness.
This model offers a 95 degree wash which is great for work clothes, and incorporates a drum easily large enough to fit a single duvet.
The control panel is simple to use with a guide layout on the left and a dial on the right.
The filter is easily accessable and the drawer simple to remove and clean. It also comes with a standard two year guarantee, which is great as most models only have one.
It is worth shopping around as some places deliver for free and the price can range from £239-269. Kitchen Science are offering it for £245 with free delivery, John Lewis £249 with free delivery.
