We have had this machine for over a year now and so far so good. It seemed very good value at Comet at the time and our previous model had given up on us so...time to invest.
Spin speed options are threefold at 1600/900/700 (why do women always go for the machines with the highest speeds - its the same with vacuum cleaners when they plump for maximum suckability!) and there is a useul night wash facility which would be handy if you are on Econony 7 or some such tariff. There are no fewer than 20 different wash cycles covering Cotton, Synthetics, Delicates, Specials and Spin/Drain/Rinse Options. There is even a setting for you to wash your sports shoes!
It's an A rated appliance.
A useful additional feature is the delayed start giving options to delay by 3, 6 or 9 hours - very handy if you don't want to come home to wet clothes that have been sitting in the machine for most of the day.
It has a 6kg load capacity and a good wide front-loading door which seems very sturdy. (Our last machine broke at the door due to our boxer dog using it as a step up to the kitchen bench to steal things!). The filter is handily located at the bottom and is easy to get at.
On the plus side, it does an excellent job of washing our clothes. On the down side, even if you use the Quick options, most progammes seem to take far too long. Hardly surprising then that most of us stick to just 1 or 2 faourite cycles and forget the rest. One other important point to note is that it seems to be a tad deeper than the standard models so measure up carefully if you don't want it jutting out into the room and spoiling the line of your units.
I have had this machine for approx 18 minths and it is great! I had a hoover washing machine before and Im so glad it broke so I could replace it with this brilliant machine.
Basic features are it is 6kg drum and has a maximum spin cycle of 1600.
However, it has soo many more great features. I will list them, which may be boring but I feel they need to be shared.
Main wash cycles are:
Cottons - 90degree, 60 degree, and 40 degree, the 60 and 40 also have the economy wash option.
Synthetics - 50 degree and 40 degree, 40 has an optional easy iron cycle.
Delicates - 40 and 30 degree.
Special wash options are:
Spin, Drain, Rinse.
Wool 40 degree.
Handwash 30 degree.
Mini 30 minute.
Silk 30 degree.
Sport Shoe 40 degree.
Sport 40 degree.
All of the above are on the main wash dial, there are other functions to use in conjunction with your main wash choices, these include:
Prewash, Intensive, Superquick.
Auto Half load.
Delayed start 3,6 or 9 hours.
Spins 2600, 900, 700 or night wash.
As you can see this machine has lots of great a helpful functions, I believe their is a function for everything you could ever need to wash!
The Nightwash function allows the machine to keep the clothes in water and rotate the drum at regular intervals so the clothes arent left damp in a machine for hours, once you are ready for the clothes to come out simply press the button and the machine will finish the cycle. This is great way to keep energy costs down as electricity is generally cheaper throughout the night. Using this function along with the delayed start is a great idea too.
I would recommend checking the dimensions of this (or any) machine before you buy it as I didnt and the machine sits slightly further out than my kitchen sideboards and this has lost me the use of one of my drawers.
Also if you would like to wash duvets or large one piece materials this machine is not ideal, the 6kg drum doesnt allow even a single duvet to be washed with eased!
Energy rating is A.
I just purchased one of these last week from John Lewis as the price was competitive (£250) plus £19 for express delivery, it comes with a two year guarantee instead of one year, and they took the old machine away free of charge.
My only gripe was that I was told that the free delivery machines were out of stock and I could only order the express delivery model. It was explained that this was because they are shipped from different warehouses. Still very confusing for the customer who would prefer a choice.
The machine was delivered three days after ordering with the usual "can't say exactly when it will be delivered caveat" but arrived at about 2PM.
The machine was quite straighforward to plumb in - only one water supply these days and quite easy to get going. The electric lead could be a bit longer though and I had to cut it and connect to another in order for it to reach where my previous Zanussi reached.
The spin speed is 1600 rpm, which is enough for anyone and the clothes come out about as dry as they can be without hanging them up for a little while. Very impressed with this.
The settings are very easy to use and there is even a "sports shoe" setting for dirty trainers (shoes not fitness experts!). I also like the timer which can delay the start for 3, 6 or 9 hours so that you can have the wash finished and ready at a certain time (or at night), if you plan in advance.
Many people were saying to get a Bosch washing machine but for the price, functionality, reliability and looks this seems a good purchase and well worth it.
In terms of stars, I can't give it full marks since it's still a new purchase but in my books, 4 stars is very good and I will update if required in due course.
