      An excllent buy

I bought this washing machine primarily on price - it was the best buy for around £250.

I had set out to buy a machine that was simple to operate, and this machine certainly is clear for all the family. The temperature dial is clearly divided into sections for cotton, synthetics, delicates or wool, with temperatures within these sections. For example, if you wanted a 40% wash, this is available in each of the wool, synthetic, cotton or delicates sections - you just choose. There is a comprehensive written guide on the front of the machine to tell you which programme to select - avoiding the need to constantly refer to the paper guide that comes with most washing machines. Straightforward slection buttons on the front give you half load, pre wash or delayed start options, and the spin speed is chosen from a second dial. Although this sounds complicated, it is incredibly easy to decide which programme to choose!

My other two buying criteria were a fast spin speed and a large load capacity - the 7kg load and 1600 spin speed fulfilled both of these. Like most Zanussi's, the machine has a nice quiet spin - but it does tend to make a rather alarming grinding noise before the spin starts. I was a bit worried, until I consulted the troubleshooter and read that many customers are worried by this noise, but it is a normal part of the programme.

One of the things I like about it is the large degergent dispenser. A small detail, but it means that I do not slop washing liquid and conditioner all over the sides when I am in a hurry. The dispenser is really easy to take out and clean - very different from my old machine which needed a strong wrestling arm to take the dispenser out!

If I could change one thing about it, it would be the timing of the delayed start. You can choose from 2, 4 or 8 hours. It is very simple to use, and I try to delay the start to the early hours of the morning when electricity is cheaper. If I put the machine on in the evening, I would prefer a 2,4,6,8 delay option, just to give me more flexibility.

I have had the machine for nearly a year and with a young family, use it every day. It has not let me down so far.

        Great washing machine

Our washing machine finally gave up the ghost on Good Friday, we went in to Comet Electricals who, I have to say, were extremely helpful, and we chose the ZWF 1621 from Zanussi-Electrolux for three reasons:
        1. Price: we did not want to pay over £300, and this was £249.99, plus plumbing etc (I'll come on to that).

        2. Good, realiable brand.
        3. They had these in stock for quick delivery.

Whilst I am not reviewing Comet, we did take advantage of their delivery and plumbing (£32.95) and eco diposal of our old washer (£7.50)....just try getting a plumber out the next day to do all this for £40.
The washer is white, two dials on the right, one for wash programme, and one for spin speed. Five buttons on the left; from 'start' to delay start, pre wash, options and half load. There is a very clear display of lights showing what part of the cycle the wash is on. The instructions related to the wash cycles are very clear on the front of the washer as are the temperature settings and different modes related to type of material. There are top loading drawers for washing powder, though we use the little bio degradable packets that we put in with the wash.

The washer has an 'A' energy rating, good.
Spin efficiency energy rating 'A', even though some reviews list it as 'B', good.
Spin speed up to 1600 rpm, good.
7 Kg wash load, again, some reviews list it as 6KG, but not the instruction manual, good.
The cycle seemes much quicker than our old Hotpoint, 30 minutes for a full wash n spin at 40 degrees, we do not wash hotter than that for environmental reasons so I cannot comment on other settings.

The thing that amazes me is how very quiet and stable it is, I mean, okay our old machine was 6 years old, but we had to pack the sides against the wall with polystyrene to cut down on noise and movement, yet I cannot even hear this washer from the next room, fab.
There are numerous saftey features including the standard door lock delay, 'dial to zero' to stop all functions, and a very clever little button that can be rotated and activated when the machine is not in use to prevent small children from sutting the door from the inside.

The instruction booklet which comes with the washer is clear and easily readable and includes handy hints on everything from the use of fabric softeners to descaling, pump maintenance and some basic plumbing and electrical guidelines. There is also a 'troubleshooting guide' which is very comprehensive. Included is a handy helpline number listed for services and spare parts. Details for registering the washer to activate the guarantee (12 months), and a whole heap of technical specifications which can also be found online.

Is the website for any further information (as I've been told off by some officious reviewers about including all the technical specifications, whilst some people like that, damned if you do, damned if yopu don't!)
The website is actually quite basic, but also quite good, including a bit of history about Zaunussi (going since 1916) and the merge with Electrolux (1980), and a great 'customer service' page.

It is early days, but so far we are very, very happy with this washer and totally gobsmacked at how much more advanced it is from our last washer, which, as I said, was only 6 years old. I cannot, of course comment on the durability of this product as it is new.......I may update this review in a years time.

        Thank you for reading.
