Advantages: Good all round performance and environmentally friendly

Disadvantages: None worth mentioning so far

It's been over six months since I've been using the Zanussi-Electrolux ZWF 16281. It is a free standing 1600 rpm washing machine in a white finish with dimensions of (H)85.0 x (W)60.0 x (D)60.0 cm. It seems a well constructed aappliance and I suppose by today's standards it was a reasonable price (Just over three hundred quid). It certainly washes clothes to my satisfaction and wash loads aren't that long to finish.

When buying electrical appliances these days I always take into account environmental and energy efficiency related issues and the ZWF16281 certainly meets my expectations in this department. It comes with an A rated energy rating, an A rated wash performance an A rated spin performance. I think the wash performance related to how much water the machine uses.

The drum drum capacity is a generous 54 Litres and can easily take care of a 7 Kg wash load. The machine possesses a top spin speed of 1600 RPM which is all you need really. Although I always think it's best to have a spin speed range at the lower end because this means less wear and tear in the long run. There really is no need for super-fast spins. I would describe the noise level of the spin on this machine as about medium - it is classed at 49 dB. More importantly as far as I'm concerned is the fact that there is very little rattle and hum or excessive vibration.

The machine has an average sized door that opens and shuts without much of a problem. It's easy to quickly load and unload your washing without too much fuss. Although it's hard to tell at present, it looks as though the door catch - which is equipped with a child safety lock - is solid and built to last. On my previous machines I have always found that it is such simple mechanical problems that can render an appliance useless. The controls are basic and easy to use nor are they too fiddly as they are on so many appliances nowadays. The information is displayed in an LCD panel which is bright enough. In total there are twenty one programmes including an economy wash, a silk wash and an anti-crease programme. Most important of all, the results from the wash are quite spectacular. This will of course vary according to the quality of powders and conditioners you use. I tend to stick to the economy wash which for me seem s to work well every time. This wasn't the case on my previous Hotpoint machine.

On the whole this is a decent appliance that seems highly reliable on performance and, so far, seems built to stand the test of time. The build quality certainly seems to be of a high enough standard. I would say that this machine should comfortably handle the weekly was load of a family of four.

I bought the machine at Sainburys for £313 + £20 delivery.

Nicely done here and with all the valid points that buyers would be looking for in this type of washing machine. Does it have a quick wash programme though? Most buyers are looking for that these days as well as the default economy setting.
