I was bought this washing machine for my birthday in November. It's my first washing machine (I was going to the launderette previously) and I am really pleased with it.
I was told the washer had to cost about £200 at the most so I did a lot of research as to the best washers around at that price, and in the end chose this one. It cost about £220 with free delivery.
I was helped to install it, which is a good thing because the instructions are a bit confusing (they are the drawn type). Everything was included to install it except some hose rings, but they are necessary only if your kitchen sink is a certain design apparently.
Anyway, I did the recommended first wash with an empty drum and it worked perfectly. I was impressed by how quiet it was. Since then I have washed clothes once or twice a week, and I am always pleased with how dry they are when they come out (53% residual moisture if I remember correctly). I am always careful to put underwear items into laundry bags so they can't get trapped in the drum. Apparently many modern washers, both cheap and expensive, have a sealed drum which means if something gets stuck in it (such as a coin or a sock), the item can't be removed - the whole drum has to be replaced at the cost of about £200 (therefore the cost of a cheap washer...).
The washing machine is easy to turn on and set the controls. It has a delay function of 3, 6 and 9 hours which works well. It doesn't have a digital display, which I consider a bonus on a cheap machine because it means there is less to go wrong.
When I read up about Zanussi washing machines, I came across good reviews over the reliability, but complaints about the time it takes to wash clothing. The normal cotton wash takes 3 hours, and the 'Super Quick' wash is not so super quick at an hour! I knew this before the machine arrived, and the operating manual also gives estimates for the time that washes on various settings will take. I read online that long washing times are the price of increasing the efficiency of electricity and water consumption (less water usage + less electricity = longer wash cycles). I don't mind the time it takes to wash items but I imagine others would view it with impatience.
As it is a cheap machine (which means cheap parts) I am not confident it will last for much longer than its 1 year guarantee, so I will view any life after that time as a bonus (doubly so as I got the machine for free). When it does die, I will definitely consider another Zanussi in future.
