Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Watch
by carlz2001uk
Looking for a little watch for my youngest daughter, I was pleased when I came across this Mickey Mouse Clubhouse watch. My daughter is only 4 so can't tell the time, but has started taking an interest in the time and clocks, although at the moment every time you ask her the time it seems to always be 2 'o'clock, I figured a watch may ... help her get a grasp of 'half pasts', etc a little more.
For under £10, I thought the price was really good, and the fact that it has Mickey Mouse all over it is a bonus as she is obsessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Sky. I was quite aware that the watch was blue and may be aimed more at a boy but I hoped she wouldn't notice this too much as it seemed the best watch that I could find for the same price. She has since receiving it, only mentioned that it was blue once but I just told her that Santa thought she loved blue, to which she replied 'oh, yes I do actually, not as much as pink though.'!
The watch came nicely presented in a plastic packet. Suitable for age 3 plus, I think this is a little young as I don't know many 4 year olds that can tell the time but this is probably more to do with small parts etc.
The watch itself in terms of telling the time is quite useful and has the numbers as you would expect on a child's watch rather than the dots or dashes to mark each hour. The strap is blue with lots of stars all over while the face of the watch has a big picture of Mickey Mouse which will make telling the time lots of fun. We started out by telling her it was mickeys ear past 3, or Mickeys chin past 5 and she has already started to grasp the hours part in just a few weeks since Christmas. We have explained to her that this isn't the correct way to tell the time but we will worry about the 5 past, half past etc, bit later. She finds telling the time fun and even wears her watch to school. I would love to be a fly on the wall in her class when she is telling people it is mickeys ear past 10! They must think we are barmy!
The minutes hand is a different colour allowing the child to differentiate between minutes and hours (something I always struggled to grasp when I was young), and this will definitely come in handy for later on when we 'properly' teach her to tell the time.
The watch seems (so far) to be well made and even survived a frantic 10 second dive into the bath (which I wouldn't recommend!). For the purpose of teaching the time in a fun way, it is perfect, and the endorsement by Mickey will no doubt be a hit too. Read the complete review |

Tatty Teddy Pink Strap CZ Watch With Charm
by carlz2001uk
Time has been an important aspect at home over the last few months as my youngest daughter has started to show an interest in learning to tell the time, and my eldest has finally cracked it and can now fully tell the time. To mark such an occasion (!), for Christmas I thought it would be appropriate to give each of my girls a watch. My ... youngest received her first watch, while my eldest received this Tatty Teddy watch to replace her more 'babyish' first watch.
I wanted a watch that wasn't too expensive as my daughter has a nasty habit of 'losing' things, so I was happy to find this Tatty Teddy watch in Argos for just under £10. She is getting to an age where she has started to take an interest in the Tatty Teddy range so I was happy with this choice, even if it had been led mainly by the price.
Coming in a nice presentation box, it does make a lovely gift and seemed a lot more special than something that £10 could buy. For her, you would have thought I had bought her a Tag Heuer and she was over the moon with it!
Measuring around 21cm, it could actually fit on an adults wrist, and my husband had to put an extra few holes in the strap to allow it to fit her. This is something that I normally have to do in my own watches though so I don't think this is a design flaw, more just our skinny little wrists!
The watch itself is quite subtle which I like. Usually I find that children's watches tend to have whichever endorsement plastered over every single bit of the watch including the strap, but this watch is much more subtle and 'grown up'. She really felt a big girl on Christmas Day when she received the watch, despite only actually being 6! The face of the watch has (as you would expect) a Tatty Teddy on a pink background and numbers on the face. The pink leather strap was a little tricky at first for her to manage to put on herself but after persevering and wearing the leather in a little, she can now manage to fasten the strap by herself. Something I was quite impressed with - I sometimes struggle to fasten my own watch!
The watch has minutes and hours and a seconds hand which was a novelty to her for an alarming amount of time! I can now show her how much time she is wasting when she is eating slowly, talking when she should be doing homework, dawdling.... (you get the idea!). The watch also has a nice little love heart charm which is fastened to the strap, a nice detail that my daughter loves.
All in all, a pretty decent watch for a child. It seems well made and the price can't be grumbled at at all. Read the complete review |

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Watch
by Whizz11
My daughter has just turned three and for her birthday this year we decided it was time to buy her her own watch. She really liked looking at ours and trying to put ours on and kept asking about what time it was or what time we were going someone so I thought it was a great idea to get her a watch of her own and help her start learning ... how to tell the time. It's a skill that needs to be taught but I thought if she could look at a watch every day on her wrist she would pick it up a lot quicker than by not having one.
She loves Mickey and Minnie Mouse so on a trip to the Disney store the weekend before Christmas (an excursion I don't recommend, the place was packed with tired frantic adults and screaming children) I found this watch. It was a last minute find as I had actually gone in for something else and was standing in an everlasting, non moving queue when I found it by the til. I actually wanted a Minnie Mouse one, not a blue Mickey Mouse one as it was for my little girl but when I asked the assistant at the til she said the only one they had for girls was a bit of a naff princess one so I bought the Mickey one. It was only £10 so I thought if she really didn't like it it wasn't too much of a problem but thankfully she loves it and loves having a watch of her own. It is recommended for age 3+ so perfect for her.
The watch came in a nice cardboard presentation box so if you are thinking of this as a present for someone it would be good. The watch itself is blue and made of plastic. The strap is made of that shiny plastic material and the face is a bit chunkier. My daughter has such small wrists that even the smallest hole fitting did not fit on her wrist so my husband had to make another one a bit further along but thankfully this did not break the plastic.
What I like about the watch is that it has a proper clock face with hour, minute and second hands so my little girl can learn to tell the time properly. In my opinion this is much better than a digital watch which is no way to learn the time properly.
The watch has a picture of a smiling Mickey Mouse on the face, looking as cute and funny as ever. The hour hand is blue and the minute hand is red and the second hand is black. Like I've said above, the watch band is plastic and blue and has prints of Mickey Mouses's head on it in blue, white and red. Around the watch face are the numbers 1 to 12 written in red ink. These are quite easy to see and fairly bold so it makes it easy to tell time. There is a dial that moves around the watch face and this has 5 to 60 written in 5 minute increments. This dial helps to teach the time to little kids. For some reason this dial only moves anticlockwise but its easy to move and my little girl is always doing that and looking at it.
There is a silver dial at the side which allows you to twist it to set the time and I find this fairly easy to do.
This is a really nice watch and hopefully my little girl will be telling the time in no time!! Read the complete review |
