Swatch Color the Sky GS124
by cookie9
I have several Swatch watches as I feel they are well made and stand up to a lot of wear and tear. I bought this one a few years ago at the airport as I wanted a watch I could wear on holiday and take into the water with me. Although these watches make no claims to be waterproof at depth I have been diving with them without any issues. ...
Appearance
Well if you are shy and retiring this watch probably isnt for you as it is cetainly eye- catching with its colourful stripes. As the stripes are not uniform and have a look of being painted on this makes it an atrractive casual watch. I found that having several colours on it meant it suited my summer holiday wardrobe very well. The other advantage of being quite bright is that it is relatively easy to spot if your mislay it somewhere. The last thing you want on the beach is a sand coloured watch! The strap is plastic but comfortable to wear. I have very small wrists but the smallest setting fits me well. The watch is sold as unisex but I would suggest trying it on for size if you are a man with large wrists to make sure it fits. The watch face is quite large in comparasion with typical ladies watches with a striped background and the numbers in white font with the 12, 3, 6 and 9 all being slightly larger than the other numbers. The hands are white with a second hand. The minute hand and hour hand both end with white circles with the minute hand having a blue dot as well. The bluckle and watch surrouns are both pale blue plastic.
Use
As I meantioned early this is a great watch for holidays as you can swim with it on with no problem and can even dive with it. Obviously if you do a lot of diving you should invest in a dive computer but is a novice or just doing your Padi course then this should be ok for you. I should add that this is just my own experience as the watch is sold as water resistant and not waterproof. The face is quite large so my only disadvantage with using it on holiday is that you can develop a tan line if you switch to a smaller dress watch for the evenings. Of course having a large watch face does make it easy to read. This might come in handy if you were glasses but dont have prescription sunglasses.
Overall
I have had this watch for a few years and it has been through some rough treatment with me and survived fairly well. Unlike other watches the buckle still works well and the strap hasnt fallen apart although there is some cracking now of the first thin layer of plastic that covers the watch strap. Despite this I would certainly recommend it as a good holiday watch. I cant recall what I paid for it although it was bought duty free however it currently retails in the swatch online shop for £38 which perhaps looks high for a plastic watch but it will last much better than cheaper alternatives. Ice-Watch CH.WE.B.L
by Drewster_Rooster
I stopped wearing a watch many years ago when mobile phones became common place, it was easy to see what time it was simply by looking at the screen of a phone than strapping something to my wrist and in all honesty I can't say I particularly missed wearing one at all. Even though I had no desire to ever own another watch again I would ... still receive them as gifts every now and then and although I made every effort to wear what I'd been given for me it was only a matter of time before I'd end up forgetting to put it on and inevitably would end up being tidied away into a draw never to see the light of day again.
For the past 3 years I've taken part in Amazon's Black Friday sales that run on the site in November, usually I end up spending a fortune on items that I didn't know I wanted until offered at a reduced price and I can admit to being well and truly taken in by the appeal of grabbing a "bargain". The Ice watch shown in Dooyoo's picture here was one item that was offered in last Novembers sale and despite myself and my attitude towards watches in general I simply had to have one, I was taken by the colour of the watch, its design and the fact that it had a leather strap rather than the 'jelly' ones that Ice watches usually have when they're offered for sale in high street stores and even though I didn't really believe Amazon's claim that the RRP of the watch was over £150 I still considered it to be a bargain when I managed to grab one for £66.00
£66.00 for a watch from someone who doesn't usually like watches might seem a bit on the bonkers side but I loved it from the moment I saw it and even though I would never usually dream of wearing anything white in colour I still knew I wanted one. The Ice brand has been rather popular for a few years now and I had noticed numerous different coloured ones for sale in many high street jewellers, I liked the look of the faces but didn't really care for the plasticy, jelly straps that usually accompanied the watch and had no real desire to own one even though I could see how they might appeal to other people. Buying my own therefore came as a surprise but there are times when you see something that you know you must have and that's what happened with me and my Ice watch and a few days after purchasing mine it was delivered by amazon.
The watch comes very nicely packaged in an oversized presentation box and the watch itself is housed in a white coloured plastic 'brick' box. The box looks like a big piece of Lego and the watch itself is firmly held in place but is easy to remove. You are given a warranty/guarantee booklet with the watch and an easy to read instruction pamphlet explaining the various functions although it's quite obvious what everything is for and I didn't need to consult mine at all. Both the face and strap are bright white in colour, there are orange coloured highlights on the watch face and the second hand is orange coloured too. The Ice logo is clearly displayed on the face of the watch and the numbers and hour/minute hands are silver. There is a moveable outer bezel that can be used for a timer and there is a stopwatch function on the watch as well as a clearly displayed date 'window'. It's a battery run analogue watch with a stainless steel case back which is firmly fixed to a thick leather strap and overall I would describe the watch and strap as being chunky.
It has quite a high profile when worn on a wrist, the watch itself is raised and you do have to be careful not to knock it when first getting used to it as it can get in the way at times. It's very comfortable to wear though and although very chunky in design it's not too heavy and once you've got used to how it feels on your wrist you pretty much forget that it's there. I've owned mine for just under a couple of months now and still wear it every day and even though I take it off to go to bed at night it's something that I enjoy wearing as I do like how it looks. It's quite fashionable I suppose but it's not a cheap fashion watch, it has kept excellent time since I've owned mine and I do think it's a very reliable timepiece as well as being something funky to wear. The leather strap in particular is very comfortable against the skin of my wrist and the clasp is strong and reliable, you can tell from just looking at the watch that quality materials have been used in its manufacture I think and for someone like me who was pretty much ambivalent towards watches it is a much prized possession.
Looking around for prices it would appear that amazon's original RRP of £150 is somewhat ambitious although the watch does to tend to retail for over £100 from some online shops, I've never seen it anywhere for the price I paid though so I do consider my £66 to be a bargain. It's sold as a unisex watch although I do think it's probably more masculine than feminine and a lady would need quite big wrists to get away with wearing this particular model. I don't think it's particularly 'young' in its design and whilst the Ice brand might be more targeted at the younger generation I do think that it's quite universal in appeal and whilst mine might not be the most practical of coloured watches to wear it's maintained its bright whiteness in the time I've been wearing it for and anyway, how often do your wrists come into contact with something that's going to get them dirty.
All in all I love my Ice watch and for an impulse buy it's been one of my better purchases, for anyone looking for a well made, reliable and stylish watch then I'd definitely recommend the Ice brand in general and if White isn't a colour for you there are plenty of other options to chose from. 5 stars as a rating, thanks for reading my review. Sekonda 3258.27
by Thebaker50
I have this Sekonda watch, the same one shown in the picture above.
I got this watch as a present, so I do not know how much it cost, and I have never asked. It has a main watch, and then 3 "accessory" dials. Sadly these do not actually do anything (at least no on my model). The watch has a leather strap (I can't stand ... metal straps). The watch is finished in some sort of stainless steel like metal, that is also pretty water proof.
The pro of this watch:
This watch looks like a much more expensive watch, so I do (or at least used to) wear it at weddings, funerals, interviews, that sort of thing. However this watch doesn't have a date function, which I found to be a bit annoying for day to day use. It also a bit bulky. Some people like watches that are bulky, but I personally do not. Instead my day to day watch is a small casio which I have a separate review on.
\overall then, this is a very good looking and stylish watch, that keeps the time well. However it is low on features, such as date, time, and doesn't have alarms and the such. But for me I need my watch to tell me the date a lot of the time. So for this reason I go for a digital watch. I also like my watch to be smaller and I find a alarm and stopwatch feature.
Overall I give this watch 3/5, its good, just not my sort of thing. Read the complete review |
