Fossil Ladies Black Strap Watch
by helenc72
I needed a new watch and after looking around at a lot of different ones I decided to buy this one. I am quite happy with my purchase.
Fossil is an American brand which is very well known for its watches. I have often looked at this brand before and I like it because they do quite a lot of different styles. They are also ... known for being good quality and reliable.
=== Strap ===
This watch has a black leather strap which is slightly textured. When I ordered it, the description didn't actually state whether the strap was real leather but it looked like it on the picture so I just hoped it would be, and I was pleased to see when it arrived that inside the strap the words "embossed genuine leather" are printed. I find that leather lasts much better than synthetic fake leather materials.
The strap is fastened by a buckle and has 8 holes so it is easy to adjust it to fit your wrist. The buckle is quite sturdy and has Fossil engraved on it. I find it very comfortable to wear and I can get it to fasten at just the right tightness so it doesn't slip around on my wrist.
=== Face ===
The face is fairly large and definitely quite a bit bigger than my old watch, however it doesn't look out of place as most watches around at the moment seem to have quite large faces and it doesn't really look bigger than most watches you will see in any jewellers window! The face has all the numbers on it from 1 to 12, rather than just dashes, making it extremely easy to read. It also has a second hand, which I find quite useful as I sometimes do mystery shopping and am supposed to time things like how long I waited in a queue, which is easier to do with a clear watch and a second hand! The bezel around the face is silver and set with small sparkly stones that look like diamonds. This seems to be quite a popular style on a lot of watches at the moment and I think it looks lovely.
In addition to the main time, the watch has a small dial at the bottom in the middle which shows the time on the 24 hour clock. I don't think this is completely necessary, as usually I would not be confused about whether it's 3 pm or 3 am! However, occasionally this could come in handy I suppose for any times when I have completely thrown out my sleeping schedule! The other two dials on the face are day of the week (left) and date (right). I do find these quite useful as sometimes I lose track of the date and it's handy to be able to just have a quick check on my watch. The only thing is that I will have to make sure to keep the date up to date, as obviously it won't know if there are 30 or 31 days in the month so I will have to adjust to take account of that.
=== Adjusting the time, day and date ===
There is a small instruction booklet which comes with the watch.
When I first got the watch I found it very easy to set the time and day, as you just pull out the stopper on the side and twist it, as with most watches. The day moves automatically with the time, so if it's only one hour out but pointing to the wrong day, you would have to twist it for one day and one hour to get it correct. This does take slightly longer than just setting the time but was still easy to do and didn't take that long.
Setting the date was a bit more difficult! The instructions told me to pull out the stopper slightly, to position 2 (where position 3 is to change the time). I could not manage to do this! It seemed that either the stopper was completely in, or fully out to change the time, and I couldn't get it to a position in between. I got a bit frustrated with it and just went into H Samuel the next time I went into the shopping centre (I had bought it from H Samuel online) and asked them to do it. The lady there did it no problem so obviously there is a knack to it and maybe it was just me who had difficulties!
=== Availability ===
As I said, I bought this from H Samuel. I paid £54.50 which I think was a real bargain. This was the cheapest watch out of all the ones I was considering, but it is really good quality and doesn't look cheap. Most Fossil watches normally cost more than this so I'm not sure how come it was so cheap. It is also worth mentioning that I got 12.5% cashback on this from H Samuel online via Quidco, which I was really pleased about!
This watch will probably be available from most Fossil stockists. You can get Fossil from most jewellers. The only one which I have noticed does not have it is Ernest Jones.
=== Presentation ===
This watch comes in a little Fossil tin. My tin was yellow with a green Fossil logo on it. The watch was very securely padded in there. The tin is handy to keep the watch stored in or just to use for general storage such as to put small bits of jewellery in there.
=== Warranty ===
This watch comes with a two year warranty which covers the watch movement, hands and dial and will provide a replacement if these break. It doesn't cover any accidents or negligence and it does not cover cosmetic things like scratches.
=== Overall ===
I am really happy with this watch as it looks nice and it is very clear to read. So far it has been reliable but obviously as I have only had it for a few weeks I can't comment on how reliable it will be over a long time, but I do trust the Fossil brand. Read the complete review |

Fossil ES1869 Stainless Steel Ladies Square Bracelet Watch
by ms_123
I've had a Fossil watch for a number of years now and I've found it to be both stylish and reliable. However the watch is what I'd describe as casual but smart and although it's great for everyday where and also for work it's not the kind of watch I'd wear to a party or other special function. I was browsing in my local Fossil shop and ... spotted the square bracelet watch and immediately took a shine to it. A few weeks later, when my mum and sister asked me what I wanted for my birthday I was quick to mention this watch and on the day was delighted to find this amongst my presents.
The watch itself is made of stainless steel and has a square face with rounded edges. The dial only has the hour, half hour and quarter hours marked in roman numerals. I don't mind this and think it adds a certain amount of charm to the design, however I know that some people find telling the time on watches with few numbers on difficult. The back of the watch face has an interesting swirly design, again in silver. The bracelet is also made up of round edged squares which are of different sizes and are linked together in a wonky fashion which brings a certain amount of quirkiness to the design. The squares on the strap alternate in terms of their finish, with half being shiny steel and the other being brushed and this makes the bracelet really stand out.
The watch is fastened with a small fold-over clasp on the last square and I have found this easy to open and close. I have very thin wrists and I was quite wary of buying a bracelet watch as the strap has to be adjusted significantly which is a hassle as the watch usually has to be sent away for this to be done. However in this case the links can be removed easily by unclipping the fast, just like the main one, and I did this myself when I got home. It is possible to remove up to three of the squares on the bracelet to make the strap of the desired size. I had to remove all of them and the watch now is a perfect fit so I am really pleased!
I've worn this on numerous occasions now and the watch still looks like new. It is comfortable and doesn't dig into the skin or slip off easily. I only tend to wear this on special occasions such as a party or wedding as I think it is a bit special and too nice to wear everyday. The watch is available in Fossil shops priced at £65 which I think, given the quality, is a price worth paying. I did have a look on the website but couldn't spot this particular design so I'm not sure if this has been discontinued. It comes packaged in a stylish tin box whose design can be chosen at the counter before paying and is handy for storing the watch in when it's not being worn. Overall, if you haven't already gathered, I adore this watch and have no hesitation in recommending. Read the complete review |

Fossil ES1869 Stainless Steel Ladies Square Bracelet Watch
by lorrainek858
I love watches and every year when I visit America I love going to the Fossil store and treating myself to a new watch as they work out much cheaper in the US than they do in the UK. Last year when I visited I got myself this little watch which is really pretty and unique and has a bracelet look to it.
This watch has a square ... face, the face has the Fossil name written on it and there are lines to indicate 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock on the time scale. This watch is really easy to read and the face is a nice size so you don't have to concentrate too hard to read the time on it.
The band on this watch is my favourite part of this watch, it has a cool, funky, bracelet look to it and is very modern and stylish. The squares all link on this bracelet and are set in a quirky wonky kind of style and the watch straps at the back with a subtle jewellery clasp.
I really like this watch because it is suitable for both every day wear, but it also looks quite nice when you are dressing up and is a really nice accessory.
As I said earlier, I bought this watch in a Fossil Store in the US, I can't remember how much I paid for it, but I think it worked out costing around £45 in sterling, at home however this watch is available for £65 on the Fossil UK store page, this is quite a good price for this watch as it looks great and doesn't wear or tear, it is made with stainless steel, so it won't rust or discolour.
Overall I am really pleased with my Fossil watch and am really glad that I bought it, I would recommend it to anyone who likes the watch/bracelet look and think that it would also make a lovely gift to someone. Overall I would give this watch 5 out of 5 stars.
