Kahuna K1M-3006L
by flodombey
I have owned a couple of Kahuna watches over the years as I really like the style of them which is quite funky and 'surf/skate' looking, with interesting colours, a velcro strap and chunky face. This is my most recent one and I have owned it for about five years, I bought it from Argos (who always tend to stock the latest ranges) and it ... cost me £29.99 - I notice that you can pick these watches up on Amazon these days for more competitive prices than this and it is worth shopping around.
Personally I actually think £29.99 is a very good price for such a sturdy watch, one of the reasons I like Kahuna watches is that they are idiot proof - by which I mean a klutz like me who drops them and frequently bangs them on things can rest easy that it can withstand less than delicate treatment. This one is lilac and grey with a silver dial around the outside of the face, there is a date window within the face and three hands - minutes, hours and seconds.
You can manually change the time with the pull out button on the side of the face (although I always find this quite fiddly myself) and you have to wind it forward to ensure the calendar remains accurate as it is a rotating 31 days so when a month has less than that you will need to amend it, this is not an issue for me though. I have never had any timekeeping issues with this watch except when it stopped dead when the battery died, aside from that it keeps very accurate time.
This watch claims to be water resistant up to a depth of 100m (or should that be 'down to a depth'?) but I have never tested this, personally I would never wear a watch whilst swimming anyway so it matters not to me.
The velcro straps are very sturdy and despite pretty much daily wear over the years mine are still going strong. I have had to have the battery changed once but that is all - I had to take it to a watch specialist on the high street as it has such tiny screws to get the back off.
All round this is a great watch and I like the fact that it is not too girly whilst still being clearly feminine - this style suits me down to the ground and no doubt when this watch finally gives up the ghost I will replace like for like with another Kahuna watch! Read the complete review |

Fossil ES1869 Stainless Steel Ladies Square Bracelet Watch
by ms_123
I've had a Fossil watch for a number of years now and I've found it to be both stylish and reliable. However the watch is what I'd describe as casual but smart and although it's great for everyday where and also for work it's not the kind of watch I'd wear to a party or other special function. I was browsing in my local Fossil shop and ... spotted the square bracelet watch and immediately took a shine to it. A few weeks later, when my mum and sister asked me what I wanted for my birthday I was quick to mention this watch and on the day was delighted to find this amongst my presents.
The watch itself is made of stainless steel and has a square face with rounded edges. The dial only has the hour, half hour and quarter hours marked in roman numerals. I don't mind this and think it adds a certain amount of charm to the design, however I know that some people find telling the time on watches with few numbers on difficult. The back of the watch face has an interesting swirly design, again in silver. The bracelet is also made up of round edged squares which are of different sizes and are linked together in a wonky fashion which brings a certain amount of quirkiness to the design. The squares on the strap alternate in terms of their finish, with half being shiny steel and the other being brushed and this makes the bracelet really stand out.
The watch is fastened with a small fold-over clasp on the last square and I have found this easy to open and close. I have very thin wrists and I was quite wary of buying a bracelet watch as the strap has to be adjusted significantly which is a hassle as the watch usually has to be sent away for this to be done. However in this case the links can be removed easily by unclipping the fast, just like the main one, and I did this myself when I got home. It is possible to remove up to three of the squares on the bracelet to make the strap of the desired size. I had to remove all of them and the watch now is a perfect fit so I am really pleased!
I've worn this on numerous occasions now and the watch still looks like new. It is comfortable and doesn't dig into the skin or slip off easily. I only tend to wear this on special occasions such as a party or wedding as I think it is a bit special and too nice to wear everyday. The watch is available in Fossil shops priced at £65 which I think, given the quality, is a price worth paying. I did have a look on the website but couldn't spot this particular design so I'm not sure if this has been discontinued. It comes packaged in a stylish tin box whose design can be chosen at the counter before paying and is handy for storing the watch in when it's not being worn. Overall, if you haven't already gathered, I adore this watch and have no hesitation in recommending. Read the complete review |

DKNY NY4384
by MEL0611
If you have read any of my previous reviews then you will have read that I am a big fan of watches. I have quite a number in my collection and the one that I am going to be reviewing today is my DKNY NY4384 Ladies Stone set Bracelet watch. I saw this watch about a year ago now and instantly fell for it but didn't make the purchase as I ... had so many watches in my collection as it was. After selling a couple on eBay I used the funds to be able to get this one, there was something that really attracted me to it and always knew that with no willpower what so ever that it would soon be sat upon my wrist. Here are my thoughts on the watch.
The watch, the DKNY model was brought from a local independent jewellers but I have spotted it in my local H Samuel shop as well. You will be looking at paying £115 for this watch; this is at full price so it is worth looking around to see if you can spot it for a little bit cheaper, I know that my local retailer often put sales on so you may be lucky. I have brought DKNY watches in the past and this is the price that I tend to pay for them.
The watch came in a white presentation box and it was soon flipped open to reveal the watch. The watch was sat over a piece of plastic so the face was looking at you. Once I had taken the watch out of the box, I saw that there was an instruction booklet and a two year manufacturer's guarantee. The watch itself felt quite heavy in my hand but it is not at all heavy to wear on your wrist. You will see that the watch face is quite striking; it is in the shape of a capital D, representing the D from the DKNY brand. The watch, which is made from stainless steel, is a lovely design and I guess it was the watch face that first caught my eye.
The face is really easy to tell the time off and there are large 12 and 6 numbers and a dash in place of the number 9 and finally the DKNY logo for the number 3. Even though there is a couple of numbers missing, I can tell the time really well on this watch. The watch has a second, minute and hour hand and works really well. Around the frame of the watch face are very small sparkly crystal and this just gives the watch that extra bit of bling in my opinion!
The watch strap has a buckle fastener, I found this really easy to open and close and when I am wearing the watch it feels really secure on my wrist. The actual strap is made from links (I did have to have a couple removed) and on each of the individual links there are some smaller silver crystals.
The watch is one of my favourites and even though it is quite sparkly, I do like that it is ok to wear as everyday wear as well as great for going out of an evening.
The watch gets a 5 out of 5 from me
