Accurist LB1127G
by MEL0611
I have quite a large collection of watches in my collection and I have been known to wear a watch as a fashion accessory as opposed to wearing it as an object that tells the time. I have been known to have watches as presents and when returning from a recently holiday, my Parents in Law kindly brought me a watch back with them. I thought ... this was a lovely gesture as I really wasn't expecting anything and the watch in question is an Accurist Ladies Dress watch. I have had an Accurist watch in the past but it was totally different to this and it was also many years ago. Here are my thoughts on this particular model.
The Accurist watch will cost you around the £42.00 mark. I have taken the price from a number of sources and it tends to be the same price no matter when you purchase it from. I looked online and you can get this particular model from eBay as well as from high street retailers like Argos and H Samuels. The watch, in my opinion is relatively well priced and compared to what I have paid for other watches I think it is of a good value.
The watch came in quite a plain looking gift box and I was quick to get it out of here and get it worn. If I am being totally honest and this is just down to my personal taste, I cannot really say that I am a massive fan of the design of this watch. It does make me sound ungrateful but on first impressions, the fact this is a gold watch compared to my preferred choice of silver was not really an issue but for me the design is just too plain for my taste. The face on this watch is a round one and there are the numbers 12 and 6 on the face but then the rest of the numbers have been substituted with dashes.
The numbers and dashes are all in gold and the background of this watch is white in colour. There is also the Accurist name in black writing at the top centre of the face. There is a minute, second and hour hand that comes with the watch and I must also point out that the watch comes with a 3 year guarantee. The watch is one that I think is definitely reliable, the ticking is not too loud and I have not known the watch loose time at all.
The watch has a bracelet style strap and it is really comfy when wearing. There is a clasp that needs to be opened and closed when putting the watch on and I did find it to be a little flimsy. On a couple of occasions I have known the clasp to come undone on me which is a little bit worrying, luckily the watch always gets caught on my clothing.
I guess I can say that I have been a little bit let down by the security of this watch, with the clasp on the un-reliable side and the design not being to my personal taste as I would like to have seen a little bit more imagination with the design I can not really give this top marks but I do like that it is a reasonable price and for those that like a more plain design and a gold watch as opposed to a silver then this style is perfect.
3 out of 5 from me on this one

Rotary Fob Watch
by quissue
My darling husband decided it was high time I had a watch, as I have this nasty habit of breaking wrist watches just by wearing them on my wrist, this would prove a bit of a challenge. He was hard pressed to find a watch that I would not send haywire. I don't know why but something in my makeup just sends them into overdrive when I wear ... wristwatches, that and the added problem of my skin condition.
So without much delay he hit the shops and came up with this little lovely which I just pin to my bodice and wear without problem. Brilliant.
It is a Rotary watch with the usual mechanisms that most other watches have with one added bonus, I do not have to wear it on my wrist.
Obviously these are generally worn by nurses and health care workers, which is why the clock and dials are upside down when worn, but is this a problem? well no actually it is not. I found it easy to use and lovely to wear with a stylish strap and attachment bar in silver it looked the part. You can get some fancier ones if you want, but I was always a very basic is best kind of girl and Hubby lord love him knew what I would appreciate more.
The face is quite plain with normal numbers not roman numerals all around the outside of the dial there were little marks for the minutes and a second hand as well. A small button is at the side of it which is not for winding more as resetting the watch really. So once set you shouldn't need to touch it again until the clocks go forward or back.
It keeps time well and I think looks nice no matter what I wore. The chain linking was pretty and made it look a bit special.
Depending on where you go these style of watches go from a mere £15 Argos special to anything upward of £50 plus if you want a bespoke watch from a reputable jeweller.
I think Gerry paid somewhere in the middle for mine and although price does not matter here the though is most definitely what counted.
I have a skin condition which prevents wearing a normal watch and for some reason they always go mad when I place a watch close to my skin, so with this in mind he bought me this one. Thoughtful huh. Read the complete review |

Spirit Ladies Embroided Cuff Watch
by rji0907
I don't tend to have coloured, patterned watches but it was a nice surprise to receive this Spirit Cuff Watch as a present for Christmas off my parents.
For the purpose of this review, I have looked up the price and found it is available for around the £15.00 mark which I think is good value for money.
The watch ... is really pretty with a brown strap with a pretty floral design on it. The dark brown background with light pink flowers looks really pretty and the colours work really well together. There are green leaves along the strap too which adds another element to the colour.
I have a rather expensive Tag watch that I wear for special occasions and nights out, but this has now become my daily wear watch as for £15.00, you aren't so bothered if it gets scratched at work.
I really like the face of this watch too. The watch is in analogue form and features the hour, minute and second hands. The backdrop of the watch face is a pale pink colour with a flower on it and looks as cute and pretty as the watch strap. There are no numbers on the face so to enable you to tell the time, the hours are marked with larger, thicker lines, with the minutes being smaller and thinner lines. Personally I don't have any trouble telling the time with this watch, but if you are someone who likes to see the actual numbers on the face, then this might not be for you.
The watch sits nicely on the wrist and is really comfortable too. The face is a little bigger than I would normally purchase but it isn't so big that it looks out of place on my wrist, though I personally wouldn't use this for a night out as I like something a little more classy and delicate than this, but for daily usage, this is a really nice watch.
So far, this watch has proven to be reliable as it hasn't stopped on me and I haven't had to replace the battery, though please be aware that I have only owned the watch a month so a battery should last much longer than this amount of time anyway.
It has proven to be a well made watch too. Although I work in an office, I have a lot of work to do on our factory floor too so it would be possible for the watch to get a little damaged but so far the watch hasn't any marks or scratches on it and the strap is still as good as new.
Overall, this is a nice watch for day wear. It features some lovely colours and is really pretty and easy to tell the time on. It wouldn't be my taste for evening wear, but for during the day and for work, it is a really decent watch and comes with a recommendation from me. Read the complete review |
