The Accurist MB074 is a smart wrist watch for men, which although simple looks much more expensive than it actually costs. I received mine as a gift, but they can now be bought for around £25, which is a steal for such a nice watch.
The watch is made of stainless steel, and has the appearance of brushed metal. The clock face is rather large, and there are no buttons to speak of aside from the toggle on the right used for changing the time.
The clock face itself is wonderfully designed, with a brushed metal backing behind a well-designed interface. Unlike other watches which have various extras and chronographs, this one goes back to basics. It simply has the hour, minute and second hands, smartly finished in silver, as well as the hour indicators.
Unlike other watches, this one does not have each hour specifically marked. The number 12 is present in bold font but the rest of the hour numbers are absent. Instead, there are markings at each hour interval, with small pieces of raised, gleaming metal replacing characters. Between these indicators are small black markings representing the minute intervals between the main hour indicators. In the centre, nestled under the number 12, is an Accurist logo, written in trademark black font. The glass clock-face covering is very scratch resistant; my watch is literally showing no signs of scratching on the glass or anywhere on the watch for that matter, testament to its build quality.
In my experience, it has been refreshing to have such a simple clock-face. I used the watch during exams to keep track of time, and it was easy to tell the time at a glance, unlike many of the more complicated devices I'd previously used.
The metal strap is smartly designed and very resistant. The links look really sleek and well designed, while they can be removed to change the size of the strap to fit your wrist. I had to do this with my watch, and it was an effortless process which was over quickly. It's also robust, and fits nicely on the wrist. The clip on the underside of the watch is also sleekly designed, with an engraved Accurist logo on it. As you unclip the watch, a hinge opens which allows you to put on/remove the watch with ease. The clip is sturdy and has never failed me, always staying on my hand even when I have been rushing about. The strap's stainless steel coating means it has not suffered the pitfall of other watches which is strap wear, so mine looks as good as new more than a year after receiving it.
The underside of the watch is also very robust. The watch is battery operated, and the battery cover is safely fixed onto the watch. It is engraved with the watch details and Accurist logo and is rather easily removed so you can change your own batteries without the need to pay expensive replacement costs in high street shops. As far as battery life is concerned, one battery has lasted me upwards of six months, and the watch has never inexplicably stopped after over a year of continuous use.
Despite being made exclusively of metal, it is also a delight to wear. It is a light and sleek watch, and you soon forget you're even wearing it due to its compact design.
This Accurist watch is an ideal choice for those looking for a smart, simple and understated business watch. It has no functions other than telling the time, unlike other more recent (and more expensive) watches, but this is to its advantage. At only £25 off Amazon.co.uk, it comes highly recommended.
