“ Brand: Adidas / Adidas boy's watch „
My ten year old son has finally mastered telling the time, after struggling with the concept for some time so it seemed an appropriate time to buy him his first 'proper' analogue watch for Christmas.
I purchased this Adidas boy's sports watch from Amazon in the run up to Christmas, confident that the simple sports style watch, complete with familiar Adidas branding, would be a good choice for my son. Fortunately, I was proven right and my ten year old has worn this everyday since receiving it, only removing it to go swimming or have a bath.
Unlike the cheaper plastic kids' watches which come in just a basic cardboard outer, this child's watch came packaged in a proper watch case, making it a lovely gift for a young boy. The battery comes supplied and the watch simply needs setting to the correct time. This was relatively easy to do and remains secure after adjusting so there is little risk of the time being altered accidentally.
The design of the watch is ideal for a sports loving boy, with a simple but distinctive black and red colour scheme. The strap is made from a strong flexible rubbery Polyurethane which has proven to be both comfortable and resilient, with no signs of any wear and tear despite daily use. My son does suffer from eczema and certain fabrics and materials can irritate his skin, causing sweating, itching and subsequent rashes. Fortunately, despite almost constant wear, this rubbery strap and watch face does not cause any rubbing or irritation at all and has proven to be perfectly comfortable.
The strap is generously sized without being excessive in either length or thickness. My son does have very slender wrists and subsequently needs to have this on its tightest setting, although he is very slim for his age so is not necessarily representative of his age group. I would imagine that the strap size would accommodate a typical eight or nine year old, although may be too big for a child any younger. Likewise, there are numerous settings so this watch offers considerable scope to grow as my son grows older too.
The watch face is quite compact helping to keep the whole watch in proportions to a child's arm and wrist. I find the numbers to be clear and easy to read, with minutes, hour and seconds hands making the whole process of telling the time much simpler than some modern designs that miss of some of the numbers and cause unnecessary confusion.
Since purchasing this, the watch has proven to keep accurate time and is a practical style, robust enough to withstand regular wear and rough play. The watch is water resistant, so unlikely to be accidentally damaged through contact with water, although not fully waterproof.
With an RRP of £20, I paid £16.40 from a third party seller (Watch Shop) on Amazon, where this particular watch is still available for the same discounted price. At that price, I feel that this is an excellent quality and inexpensive first watch that should be appreciated by boys from around eight to thirteen years old.
