ASOS Vintage Style Filigree Metal Watch
I have been looking for a watch for a while and I never found one that I liked, until a month or so ago and this watch appeared on asos.com. The watch is asos's own brand, not part of any concession brand and it is still on asos.com.
- Asos description
"Delicate filigree watch. Featuring a silver tone metal bracelet design with an oval analogue face to the front, and a series of links to the back with a hidden clasp fastening. 88% Alloy, 6% Brass, 5% Stainless Steel, 1% Glass". Product code: ZJEWA1548246.
I really love the filigree design of this watch - filigree is a delicate jewelry metal work supposedly used since the ancient egyptians. The metal is silver in colour but in most lightenings the silver looks quite dark - it then looks like a gunmetal grey colour. I like the design as in my opinion it looks quite feminine and the design also looks quite antique/vintage - hence the name of the watch. I like the design mostly as it looks quite unique in my opinion and I personally have not seen a watch like this before in stores. There is only one feature of the watch design that I do not like which is that the sides of the watch face are not symmetrical - the right hand side of the watch is missing some parts, which I originally thought were broken off but they are missing so that you can have access to the dial.
The watch has a bracket design at the back of the strap and when I first tried the watch on it was quite big and it could just slip off my wrist - so I took the only loose/removable link out of the back which took seconds and it now fits really well. If you have small wrists I would look at watches with the bracket/link fastening on the back of the watch as links may be able to be removed. The watch is not very heavy and it fits on my wrist fairly well, after the link was removed.
- Using the watch
I find that this watch fits with a lot of clothes that I wear, as I wear a lot of neutral colours. The watch is mostly comfortable to wear, the only annoying this about the watch when I wear it is that: as the watch face is the heaviest part of the watch, the watch rotates on my wrist so that the watch face is not visible. This is rectified by pushing the watch up my arm so that it can not move, which is a little bit uncomfortable. The bracket/link on the strap are easy to open and close to take the watch on and off.
The face of the watch is very easy to read, as the background colour (white) contrasts with the numbers which are black. The hands are also really easy to read and they can be adjusted using the circular dial behind the filigree design. Overall, the watch is fairly comfortable to wear and the watch face is also easy to read.
- Overall positives
The overall positives in my opinion are as follows: the watch design is unique, the watch is fairly comfortable to wear, it is easy to read the time off the watch and the watch strap can be adjusted by removing the one removable link in the strap - which makes the strap smaller.
- Overall negatives
The overall negatives in my opinion are as follows: the design around the watch face is not symmetrical - this is so the time can be adjusted but I don't like that the design is asymmetrical.
- Price and availability
I bough this watch from www.asos.com - the only place you can buy it and it is priced at £28, which I think is a reasonable price, especially considering the price of some other watches. For more information visit the link above. It is still available on asos.com (as of the 18/10/11).
