I have a big fat Diesel watch that I often wear when going out or on occasions when I dress up. It's a big old watch and often irritates my wrist. This is why I decided to get a light watch for everyday use that would not look out of place whilst I was at work.
I looked at Casio's range of watches as I had used them before and they have been around forever. I was browsing online and stumbled across the Classic Casio MQ-24-7BLL. It was on Amazon for £5 and seemed to be what I needed So I bought it.
The watch is black in colour. The strap and head frame are completely black with the face being white with the numbers and hands black. This makes it easy to read the time and prevents any confusion or blurring. The watch looks good with its plain colours and rather professional. The strap fastens well with a number of holes to change the size. It feels light on the wrist and has no rubbing irration.
I have owned the watch for over two years now and am yet to need to change the battery. The watch is simple to change the time on with a metal twisting button on the side. The face is scratch resistant and my mine almost looks as good as knew. Another good feature is that water resistant up to a depth of 30 metres so you don't need it to worry when washing up or having a shower.
For me it was a great purchase. I still use it for work and it is yet to fail me.
If you dont like all those fancy watches with bells and whistles that you dont need,then this is a perfect watch for you.it is cheap,stylish,easy to read,and reliable.
First of all,the actual watch face itself is brilliant,it is bright white with nothing on it except numbers and hands so there is nothing to clutter up the room,the black contrast to white means that it is always very easy to read even in low light conditions.the adjustment dial (?) is very easy to use too as it is not stiff or small like other watches that make you get your fingernails in awkward positions,it is just the right size and pulls out very easily.
The resin strap that it is on is a lot more comfortable than you might expect,at first i thought it might be a bit sticky,but it is fine and easily slides around on your wrist(if you loosen it or want to adjust it,it doesnt slide around normally)it is a very durable strap too as ive had it for 5 months now and it hasnt shown any signs of wear and tear(including water damage to the watch face)as it is very flexible and can bend all the way round as if you were going to snap it without damaging.
Overall this is a perfect budget watch that looks great,it is also very reliable as casio claim the battery lasts 3 years,i dont know if this is true but casio have been great in the past so...
**Classic, Simple with no irritation!**
That's how I like my every day watches to be. There's nothing worse than being asked the time and struggling to see what the time is yourself because you've got a tiny beautiful diamond studded bracelet watch on which is more for show than knowing what the time is.
I have the odd ' dressy' watch, but can't be doing with watches that i can't even read the clock face, or gadget watches that can switch the tv on or make a cuppa (do they even do those sort of watches yet? If not, it won't be long! ) .... With watches that I choose, I have to be able to read the clock face easily so the white background on this little Casio with black easy read dial was perfect for me, despite it being in the ' mens' section of watches.
Casio has been around for donkey's years and is a well established multi-BILLION successful company renown for producing high quality goods all over the world. I've had several Casio watches over the years and you really can trust in their professionalism and know that you are buying a watch that will last. Ok, so this is not a watch to wear on that glam night out, but it's a watch for everyday use and perfect for me at work. For £6 on Amazon, you really couldn't ask for much more if you are looking for total simplicity. Black in colour, it matches well with many a different outfit.
The watch has black analogue features held upon a white background. The numbers are of good size with clear black markings for seconds and hours. The clock hands are thick and bold and the seconds hand is slightly thinner. It's a striking face to look at and when asked the time, I find I only have to glance at it quickly because it's so easy to read. It REALLY stands out.
The strap is made of durable nickel free black resin and if you are prone to sensitive skin, like me, you should be fine with it as I don't get any irritation at all. I think that's always handy to know when buying a watch, because the amount of watches I've had that have rubbed, marked and irritated my skin is several! I've had the watch a good length of time now and not needed to get the strap replaced. I do however tend to take my watch off after a days work, due to the moistness that can build up under the strap.
The clasp buckle on the strap is very secure and keeps the watch strapped on safely.
*A battery that should run for at least 2 years before needing changing
*It has a 2 year guarantee.
*Japanese quartz movement
*Water Resistant to 30m depth
*Scratch resistant face
*Non metal buckle fastener on the resin strap
*Stainless steel back to the watch
Overall, a timeless watch for those that easily and comfortably want to tell the time!
I am extremely allergic to anything which has nickel in it and even wearing watches with metal straps or buckles can bring me out in an itchy rash - especially in hot weather.
I used to buy the resin Swatch watches but they became quite expensive for ordinary wear and I do so much gardening which can take its toll on a watch. However this Casio watch looks very similar to a Swatch watch, has a lot of the features but is only £6.74 on Amazon with free delivery. Sounds almost disposable!
*** Main Features of this Watch***
*Most importantly for me it has a resin strap with a non metal buckle fastener.
The back of the watch is stainless steel which apparently seals in any nickel content and so it is quite safe for allergy sufferers.
* It has an analogue face with a seconds hand - perfect for nurses (used to be one!)
* Japanese quartz movement
* Water Resistant to 30m depth
* Scratch resistant face
* Casio report it has a battery which can run 2years before replacement necessary
* It has a 2 year guarantee.
It has a very simple and flat appearance with a white face and black resin strap.
Amazon sell a 'mans' and 'ladies' watch of this design - however the man's size looks more stylish and I love large simple watches.
What more could you ask for at £6.74. This is my second purchase - my last one lasted for 3 years before the battery ran out and only cost £4.99 so I thought a new one would be more economical than buying and having a battery fitted - even at the higher price.
I read in another review that the strap can break after only one year - well my last one certainly did not and it was still intact after three years of heavy gardening.
I just hope they are still available 3 years from now.
I am sure everyone knows of Casio's reputation when it comes to watches. They are known for their reliability and their precise time keeping. No difference with this watch either. It is Casio's most basic analogue watch. Made for those looking for a no thrills accurate and well made time piece. As per usual it uses a Japanese Quartz movement meaning it loses/gains only 30 seconds every month, very accurate for the price. Moreover the glass which protects the face is a mineral crystal glass which is much stronger compared to similar priced unbranded watches and it helps prevent scratches. The face itself is nice and large and the black hands and digits stand out well making it very easy for the wearer to tell the time. The watch strap is made of rubber resin which makes it quite durable while the watch case is made of plastic with a stainless steel back which means if you accidentally drop or scrape the watch it will carry on working perfectly. The strap is length adjustable so that it will fit a variety of wrist sizes and it is secured comfortably by a standard buckle fastening. What's great is that Casio state that the battery in the watch will last 3 years, this is quite true, but the watch strap on the other hand tends to break after 1 year (and it is not covered by Casio's standard 2 year warranty). The watch is not the most attractive time piece out there but it is certainly reliable and most importantly very accurate when displaying the time. It is a simple and reliable time piece made by a manufacturer which always offers great value for money.
Looking at this Casio MQ-24-7BLL I am sure you will agree how plain it is. I love the simplicity of this watch and wear it every single day. Obviously it isnt a dressy watch and i do have other watches to wear on special occassions. The Casio has a simple resin strap which is black along with the casing of the watch itself. The hands are black and there is an hour, minute and second hand and the watch has always kept very good time. The watch front cover is acrylic and the clasp is a buckle which is very secure and although it is plastic I have never felt it would break easily. The case diameter is 35mm and the thickness 7mm which makes for a compact watch that is of such a simple design.
You may have notcied that the simple designs are making a big comeback in recent years and this watch is no exception. I think they are around £6 on Amazon which makes this Casio MQ-24-7BLL very good value. At 250grams it isnt a chunky watch and this shows the quality in my opinion of the product Casio have aimed to deliver. Yes, you could go and spend £50+ on a much heavier, chunky gadget packed watch but this is very much a simple solution to a simple problem. I think spending a bit more on a stylish watch for best is acceptable, but to wear every day this is the perfect watch. This model has been around for 25 years+ and it will continue to sell well due to its simple lines and timeless design.

>'IT'S ABOUT TIME' ~THE COMPANY<
Casio Computer Co. Ltd. is a global electronic instruments company having its roots set in 1946 by Kashio Tadao. Initially after graduating high school, Tadao started out as a metal working apprentice. The factory owner noticing Tadao's abilities, encouraged him to start studying at Waseda University whilst working at the factory; gaining experience in an assortment of jobs which soon furnished a fine reputation and subcontracts for Tadao.
Then, at the age of twenty-nine, Tadao set up his own business in 1946 called Kashio Seisakujo, in Tokyo.
Along with his industrious three younger brothers, Tadao made great and innovative strides creating unique electronic equipment. Thanks to the hard work of Kashio and his siblings, Casio is now a multinational multi-billion successful company respected for its quality goods.
>>'CLOCKING IN' ~REASON FOR PURCHASE<<
I wanted to purchase a basic, durable and affordable watch for my son to wear at his secular job. As I've experienced Casio quality products before, I decided to look at this brand for the time piece.
>>'THE SANDS OF TIME'<<
The watch has black analogue features set against a white background. The numbers are sizable with clear black seconds' notches between the bolder hourly signals. The hour and minute hands are in thick bold black pointers, whilst the seconds hand is thinner. Situated underneath the twelfth hour marker are the words CASIO Quartz. My son has found this striking display furnishes him with only needing a brief focus to monitor the time. Additionally, the case diameter of 35mm further promotes a clear sizable visual display.
The watch encompasses quartz technology. Quartz crystal is known as piezoelectric, meaning that when a quartz crystal is vibrated it causes a minute electrical current. So, if a tiny electrical current was to be run through a quartz crystal, it would actually vibrate at an accurate frequency; always vibrating at the same precise frequency. This unique amazing feature is fundamental in keeping accuracy of time in a component such as a watch. Inside the watch is a small battery. By way of an electronic circuit, electricity is then propelled through the small quartz crystal whereby the crystal then begins to oscillate at the precise rate of 32,768 x per second. Furthermore, yet another electronic circuit then calculates these vibrations, accordingly generates one pulsation per second. This results in that rhythm is sent to the gears/motor which proceeds to move the hands around the watch face.
In practical terms, this means my son has an accurate time piece that will only gain or lose ten seconds annually. Due to his employment and college studies, timing efficiency isn't a luxury, its fundamental in operating a tight schedule effectively.
The watch case and strap is made of resin. This resin can be from its natural state, from plants or produced as a synthetic compound. It is most likely that the resin component used in this device is synthetic as this type is more stable to manufacture and much less expensive. Moreover, with it's simple and small side dial button to set the initial time, the neat look is kept functional!
The durable resin strap, after a year's wear, has as yet not needed to be replaced. The negative side is that, due to the long hours of wear and the perspiration from the wrist, being without air circulating between the strap and wrist, means that there occurs a bacterial odour. Upon arriving home after the day's schedule, my son removes the watch and cleanses the strap and casing with a moist anti-bacterial wipe, thereafter drying with a soft cloth, removing any bacteria and odours. The cleansing process has no negative effects on the secured components within the watch casing or the hardy strap.
The clasp buckle affords a firm secure catch to keep the watch in place, but flat and small enough not to cause any Health & Safety risk to my son throughout the day. The black band's width is a suitable 18mm which is thick enough to withstand scrapes and knocks from my son's usage throughout the day's events but also slim enough to avoid catches from instruments he works with. Furthermore, the mechanism's light weight totals only 250grams. My son has found this to be a particularly useful feature for when he is operating sensitive elements at college, whereby his hands need to be steady and unimpeded. Therefore, with the watches' measurements of 10 x 10 x 5 cm poses no difficulty in maneuverability at my son's secular job or during his college task.
>>'NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT' ~ CONCLUSION<<
Would I recommend? Yes, if you're looking for a men's basic, no frills, sturdy, accurate and affordable watch that will 'stand the test of time'!
I purchased this watch for £5.00 but it is currently available via the Amazon site for
