Advantages: Solar powered, radio controlled time keeping. lightweight
Disadvantages: Chime and alarm sounds are almost inaudible
The Casio Protek Triple Sensor watch is a superb and lightweight timepiece. The wristband is made of titanium and is as strong as steel yet only weighs the same as aluminium.
When you take this watch out of its box you immediately appreciate its excellent quality and design. For a watch of this size it is surprisingly light and almost one can forget that they are wearing a watch due to its lightness because of the fact it is composed mainly of titanium, which is extremely lightweight, rust and scratch proof also.
The watch itself has three sensors:
1 A digital compass
2 A barometer
3 An altimeter
Also included are many other features such as stopwatch, countdown timer, and 5 independent alarms. Also the watch can be set to chime on the hour, every hour.
The Protek also is radio controlled, which means that it connects remotely to a station in Atherton which will automatically adjust your watch to exactly the precise time. I read somewhere that it is accurate to 1/00th of a second in a million years! So you have never got an excuse to miss the bus!! It adjusts itself during the night and will attempt to do it hourly for up to 6 hours. Also you can adjust the time manually if you so wish.
The alarms and hourly chime are disappointing in that the sound given off by the chime or alarm are barely audible.
Another excellent feature of this watch is that it is solar powered so you never need to replace it with costly batteries. Just put it in some daylight for a few minutes and its powered up ready to go (there are 3 gauges letting you know the power remaining in the solar cell)-High Medium and Low.
Also included is a feature to turn on a nice glowing green backlight automatically which switches on for 1 second when it is dark and when you tilt the watch towards your face as when you are looking to see the time. It is advised however to be careful when using this feature as it can turn on when you are not intending to look at the watch and then can wear down the battery sooner than expected.
The manufactures state that on one full powered charge and using the backlight once a day etc you can get 5 months use from the watch without needing to recharge the solar cell. I think this is a bit of an exaggeration on their part but certainly one good charge will last a few months.
All in all a well designed ,lightweight watch that oozes quality.
When I purchased this watch about 2 months ago I did extensive searches on the internet for the best prices. The price range was unbeliavabe. Anything from £167 up to £260. Some of the websites who charged £260 also wanted About £5 p&p but this website (www.outdoorhuman.co.uk) had it for the cheapest I could find anywhere at £167.99 with no p&p fee.
It also arrived within 2 or 3 days well wrapped and packed. Excellent!!
Summary: A great tough and rugged timepiece that looks the part
