"What's this?" I hear you say.... "Not another watch review!"
Oh yes, yes, yes!
But believe me this is no ordinary watch my friends.
Please allow me to introduce the Detomaso Tivoli G-30723.
Some call it quirky and some have even referred to it as a novelty but in my opinion this is a unique and practical watch.
"Tell us more!" I hear you cry.
Are you sitting comfortably?
Good... Then I'll begin.
Just look at the face of this watch and you will see that we are not in Kansas anymore.
The time is displayed not with hands or digital numbers. It is actually displayed in the form of coloured lights.
A vertical display of 12 lights representing hours, then another for minutes in blocks representing 5 minutes from 05 to 55 and finally a small block of 4 lights for minutes 1 to 4. Still with me?
Then, the 12 hour lights are coloured red in the AM and yellow in the PM.
Got it? Good!
Believe me, even if it sounds complicated, you will still grasp it in a nanosecond once you stare at the face. Honest!
I love this watch and I love the reaction on peoples faces when they first set eyes upon the binary display with the LED's glowing against the black background. It's a real head turner.
It looks futuristic but it's the future as imagined in the late seventies and early eighties. I'm a bit of a sci-fi freak so it definitely floats my boat in that respect. Detomaso label it as "Spacy Timeline" in their otherwise conservative collection, with maybe the exception of the "Cortona" which I will be reviewing at a later date.
There is a serious side effect that I feel obliged to make you aware of as after a few beers, when wearing this watch I do feel compelled to perform a robot style dance at any given opportunity! Hopefully you have enough self respect and self control to avoid such shenanigans.
The watch is stainless steel, robust but still lightweight and the dimensions are 32mm in diameter and 10mm thick.
The strap is also stainless steel with a safety clasp so it's unlikely to slip off your wrist by accident.
There is a date display, back light and water resistant to a depth of 30 metres which means it's best to keep it away from the wet stuff. You also get a two year manufacturers warranty and it comes in a fancy dan embossed stainless steel gift box.
Available online at Amazon for £65.00, which is a real bargain. I paid a bit more than that for mine, but I don't regret what I paid for it as it's a very special timepiece and a nice addition to my collection.
I really love my watch and would definitely recommend it to anyone who might want something that's just a little unusual.
Thanks for reading.
