Good value for money for a lovely looking, versatile and well-made watch.

I'd been looking for a new watch for a couple of weeks when I spotted this Diesel analogue ladies watch on Amazon. I've always preferred quite a masculine style of watch and after my last couple of watches were Fossil ones, I couldn't find any in their current range I liked and so browsed some other brands.

This DZ5113 fitted the bill perfectly, with a stainless steel metal bracelet, large face (35mm wide, approx 10mm deep) and broad strat (approx 15-20 mm). The face is mother of pearl with a discreet Diesel logo - it's pretty much the same as another Diesel model, DZ5105 which has a bright turquoise face, but I preferred the more neutral mother of pearl option. The face is not numbered but remains easy to read. The only additional features are a date window, so it's essentially a really basic time-piece and probably not much good for using in the dark. It has a Quartz movement.

After ordering the watch from Amazon, I was more than a little curious to see if I liked it as much in the flesh as I did looking at the photos. Overall, I was really pleased with the look and quality of the watch. The stainless steel strap and face surround is really shiney, the mother of pearl face looks quite classy and gives the chunky watch a bit of a elegant, more feminine feel. One thing I hadn't noticed in the photos is that the second hand is bright turquoise, but I think this adds a little distinctive, quirky element and slightly retro design feel. The clasp is substantial and feels very durable, it also features an etched Diesel logo and operates with a push-button action.

The watch came in a large, good quality leatherette white box with logo, accompanied by a matching white cushion inside. If I had bought this as a gift I'd be very pleased with the presentation box as it contributes to the overall feel of quality and is worth keeping.

The instruction booklet is one thing I would criticise - it is over 1cm thick and contains instructions for countless different watch models and in 8 languages in addition to English. I can't actually find any instructions that refer specifically for this model of watch and I'd much rather just receive the specific instructions for my watch.

One drawback of buying a watch with a metal bracelet such as this is getting the correct sizing. As supplied the bracelet is quite genorous in size and I'd guess that the majority of women buyers would need the bracelet reduced. I researched a couple of options; there are videos and instructions easily found on the internet showing how you can reduce the size of a metal watch bracelet yourself at home - however, you do need the right tiny tools and it looked a bit fiddly for me; I would be worried about dropping one of the tiny screws or that I'd take it apart and not be able to put it together again! I have noticed that some online retailers offer to resize the bracelet for you before sending it, for no additional charge, you just supply your wrist measurement when ordering. I decided to take mine to a local jewellers who did it in about 5 minutes for a one-off charge of £5.00, they said that if I ever need it re-sizing they'd carry out any additional adjustments for no extra charge. A couple of links were quickly removed resulting in a good fit.

Price-wise, I think this watch offers very good value for money. It seems it pays to shop around as I've seen prices online ranging from around £70 to £100. When I purchased it on Amazon it was priced at £50 which was a really good deal, but I would be happy to pay up to £100 for it. Also, if you are buying it as a gift, the presentation box adds a bit of value as well I think.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the DZ5113, it's a lovely, good quality watch, not too flashy or brash but with enough features to make it look distinctive and individual. It is essentially quite a masculine-looking watch but to me it remains elegant enough to not look like I'm simply wearing a man's watch; however, some people may disagree and indeed on some website's the watch is described as being unisex. I do think that the dimensions, though chunky, are more in-line with a ladies watch. I was pleased that having ordered it after only seeing photos online that it looked even better than I expected; it looks like a quality time piece, quietly stylish and characterful, smart enough for work and cool enough for dressing up and going out.

Having only just bought it, I couldn't testify to its reliability, but it has a 2 year warranty and is water resistant to 100 metres.
