Poor quality product with a worthless guarantee.
My 1911, bought from a local jeweller, has now failed three times.
The first time was a simple strap failure and easily rectified.
The second and third time were due to water ingress. The watch is sold as being waterproof in normal use and the instructions claim that you can shower, swim, even water ski with the watch.
On both occasions when it failed I had only used the watch in the hotel swimming pool.
It came with a five year guarantee.
On the third repair I expressed serious dis-satisfaction with the fact that firstly - the watch clearly wasn't as it claimed, i.e. it wasn't waterproof - and secondly that having let in water twice it needed at least a new mechanism. The watch was still well inside the guarantee period.
This claim was rejected and I was forced to sue the retailer for a refund - this was refused at least in part because the retailer lied and claimed that I had scuba dived in the watch.
The moral - if you want a watch to be water proof, then buy a rolex. If you want a quality watch, and/or if you expect a "five year international guarantee" to actually be worth anything then don't buy an ebel.
Oh and incidentaly, they have now shortened the "guarantee" period to three years - so what does that tell you ?!
