Advantages: Beautifully designed, lovely spiritual poem, looks wonderful, keeps time well
Disadvantages: -----------------
I own a few watches as I seem to attract them at Christmas via my brothers and daughter. It's lucky that I love to wear a nice watch and like to be able to wear a different one for different occasions.
One of my favourite watches is one a friend of mine bought me from Brooks & Bentley. It's a beautiful time piece based on the famous 'Footprints' religious poem.
The watch in the photograph above is the golden version, but I have the silver one which I think suits the design much better. It is a beautiful shiny silver which I have only needed to clean twice in the 18 months that I've owned it.
The strap is quite delicate but strong, the links are shaped almost like footprints and they feel nice and comfortable on my wrist. When I say they are like footprints I mean they have a shape reminiscent of footprints, a watch strap shaped like real feet would look awful!
The face of my watch is bordered with the same silver as the strap and the background is a very pale gold colour with a set of footprints 'walking' up the face which are rendered in a brighter gold. On the back of the watch there is an engraving of the end of the Footprints poem: "When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you".
I adore the Footprints poem and think we could all do worse than read its words and think about the meaning of the poem, I am so happy to have such beautiful words on my watch as everytime I look at the time I am reminded of Jesus' love. There is a copy of the full poem on a small black card inside my watch box which I think was a lovely touch as this is an extremely well known poem and many people find comfort from it.
The watch is easy to set and keeps time very well, I usually check the time on the watch to the BBC News 24 clock and it has never lost or gained any time at all. The hands sweep smoothly across the watch face and it's very easy to read the time even though there are no numbers on the watch, this doesn't concern me at all, but my nine year old granddaughter hates me wearing this watch as she cannot tell the time without numbers!
My Footprints watch cost my friend £108, although as it is Brooks and Bentley there are some credit options where you can pay so much per week and then receive the watch when it is paid for in full. I think it is beautiful and wouldn't hesitate to pay this money for the watch myself as it is a good time keeper, looks great and has an important spiritual message.
Summary: A beautiful watch that you will love whether you have any religious conviction or not.
