“ Brand: Gucci / Watch for: Women „
Being your typical woman I am something of a magpie and as such I am always attracted to pretty items. Back on my 21st birthday I receive a Gucci G-Line watch from my mother as it was a special birthday. I've been wearing this on and off for the past 3 and a half years and I've recently started wearing this quite regularly for work. This has re-ignited my love for this watch and I love the sentimental feelings I get when I put this on at the start of a day knowing that my lovely Mum got it for me.
My watch is model number YA109525 and is a 30 metre water resistant yellow gold plated rectangle watch with a white mother of pearl dial and the water itself is powered by a Quartz movement. It is run by battery and is has a bangle shape to the design with a Gucci G-Line clasp that is just a folding hinged clasp adorned with the Gucci lettering. In all it is fair to say that this is quite a simple looking watch, it is a classic Gucci design that has been around for a number of years, possibly in excess of 10, and it is quite a staple Gucci line that I see regularly when I am browsing for new Gucci watches online or looking in jewellers windows.
The first thing that ever caught my eye about this watch was the bangle designed. I loved it for a good year or so before I was lucky enough to receive it as a gift and I love the stylishness of it too. The gold is a classic look of course, one that now matches my wedding rings, and the yellow gold plating is long lasting and durable. I love the look of the clasp as it has the two circular pieces that seem to come together and when I wore this watch for part of my wedding day my Mum commented that it looked beautiful and reminded her of the coming together of two people both wearing rings and I will always remember that comment, as I do when I'm fastening the clasp. The actually clasp is stylish, it is a long rectangular Gucci lettered clasp that looks classy and fastens with ease. It is a functional clasp too and in all the years that I have worn this I have been able to open and close it with ease but yet it has never been caught and undone so that is a huge plus point for me as it allows me to feel confident that my watch is secure. The clasp is definitely not as stiff now as it was when I purchased my watch but it hasn't loosened significantly, just enough for me to be able to open and close it using just one hand.
The mother of pearl dial on my watch is white and this has a lovely sheen and shimmer to it that catches the light beautiful and my eye is often drawn to my watch when I am moving my arm or wrist. The face on this watch is simple yet stylish and it fits wonderfully with the watch giving a different amount of colour and light to the whole watch and it is definitely an eye catching face. I love that the movement is quartz and because the dial/face on this watch is so small the battery lasts absolutely ages. My watch is never stopped and I have only just had the watch changed a couple of months ago. This was around £55.00 as this is a 1500L series model (as indicated on the back of the watch) and this is because the watch must be resealed after the battery is replaced and then a test is carried out to ensure that this watch is still water resistant. I was happy to pay this price as my watch has increased in value from £495.00 to £545.00 now and so I figured it is only 10% of the cost to still have my lovely watch working. This was the first battery change and my watch is around 3 and a half years ago, as well as the time it was ticking in the shop window of course, and the shop assistant advised me that this battery should actually last even longer as its brand new in the watch and just a few days old when I get my watch back, however I got a guarantee with my battery replacement any way for a minimum of 12 months. The 'markings' on the hand are just the Gucci lettering and swiss made down the bottom however I do not struggle to tell the time and despite the face being small I have no problems and do not need to squint at all to read the time. I have also not had any problems with the watch losing time, this has never lost time and when the battery run out the watch just completely stopped which indicates that the movement is still working perfectly after 3 and a half years.
I love the bangle design of this watch as it hugs my wrist nicely. When I used to wear this, before my weight loss, it did hug my wrist perhaps a little too tightly if it was a very warm day but it was very too small for me and I was quite heavy, overweight really, when I first started wearing this. Now I am a more normal size after losing several stone and this looks even better on me now, just showing off to me how much weight I have actually lost. The bangle design is pretty and it feels ladylike and elegant too as well as looking stylish, in my opinion.
My watch is water resistant to 30 metres however I only ever get water near this when I wash my hands and even then I am sensible. I also apply perfumed products a good thirty minutes before I put this watch on and I take care not to get hand cream on this too to make sure that I am taking care of my watch as much as possible. Of course my watch does sometimes get rain water on it if I get caught out in a shower and I've not experienced any problems with condensation on the glass or anything related to water damage.
In terms of actual wear my watch does have a used look about it. In the time I've had it I have probably worn it in excess of 500 days, likely in excess of 750 even, and because of this there are light surface scratches all over my watch. The glass does not have scratches on it and the clasp is still working fantastically too. The yellow gold plating is still in tact and there is no obvious area where this is wearing. I would expect it to be long lasting from a brand such as Gucci and I am sure that I will get many more years of wear out of this watch, hopefully anyway!
I am sure you can tell from my review that I absolutely love this watch. It is simple, stylish and elegant in design and it is a really feminine watch too. It is definitely one of my most prized watches, along with a Tag Heuer, and I wear this regularly at the moment to work and when out for nice dinners with my husband or with friends. I would definitely rate this watch 5 out of 5 stars because it is absolutely fantastic. I love everything about this watch and I have nothing but good things to say about it.
When I was 14 my Mum bought herself a Gucci watch, from that day I knew I really wanted one and I hoped and prayed that one day I would be able to afford one. She bought herself a G Line Gucci which is silver in colour (stainless steel band) and a white face. It always baffled me why she didnt get a pink one, as although shes not keen on pink I am!
As my 21st was approaching my Mum and Dad suggested they would really like to get me something special. I couldnt really think of anything I wanted so I left it up to them to choose. About two weeks before my birthday they were both really chuffed with themselves and kept telling me they had got me something they knew I would love. I had a think about it and just knew they had got me a Gucci watch as they were so certain I would love it!
So the big day came round and it got to my last present. The wrapped box was bigger than I expected but it was wrapped in Goldsmiths gift wrap so then I knew for certain that it was what I had guessed! I unwrapped it and the watch was presented in a lovely gold coloured box, well two gold boxes actually and it looked very stylish and smart.
My watch was silver in colour with a pink face - just like I had wanted for 7 years! As I went to put it on I noticed it had two marks either side of the face. I was sure they werent meant to be there so my Mum checked against hers and no, they weren't. So we took it back to a different Goldsmiths and had a lot of hassle there (review to follow) but in the end we managed to return it to the store we bought it in and I got it replaced. It is worth noting that you can no longer buy these in pink and my second one was actually the last one Goldsmiths had in the country. So once we had the new one I was actually able to wear and finally use my birthday present!
I love the look of the watch, it is very stylish, it looks very similar to the one in the picture above except that it has a silver coloured strap and a pink face. I really like the strap because it is very simple and elegant. The metal is very bright and shiny and it has remained this way in the two months I have had it. It is worth noting that it is very easy to scratch the strap. I had worn mine only twice and I noticed it had a few slight scratches on it. I imagine these will polish out but I haven't tried this yet. My parents did suggest keeping it for best but as I rarely go anywhere important I prefer to wear it everytime I want to wear a watch. In my opinion if you are going to spend a lot of money on a watch you may aswell get your wear from it!
One of my favourite things about the watch is the clasp. You can just about see in the picture above that it has two circular shapes around the clasp to help do the watch up. The clasp itself has Gucci engraved on it and I think this looks really nice. The clasp is fairly easy to do up and I always manage to do it myself with one hand. However, the first few times you wear it it is very difficult to get it off because the clasp is quite stiff to begin with!
The face of the watch is simple and stylish. As I have said mine is pink mother of pearl where it shows glimpses of green and silver in the sunlight. I really like this as it really glistens in the light and it looks very pretty. The face also has the Gucci branding on it. This is just below the hands and again it looks very stylish.
The hands of the watch are rectangular and mine are silver in colour to match the watch. They are quite small but I find I can tell the time with them perfectly. There are no numbers on the watch face, but there is two diamonds at the twelve and the six (these are not shown on the picture above) I love love love the diamonds, I love diamonds and think these really help to set the watch off and add a bit of extra sparkle which in my opinion is a positive addition! I used to find not having markers at all of the numbers on a watch a bit of a problem with my old watches but I find telling the time on this is relatively simple and it only takes a quick glance to know the time. The watch has kept time very well. I set the watch in December and it is still keeping perfect time today.
The watch is supposed to be water resistant up to 30m but I would not be brave enough to try this! However I have been out in the rain wearing this and once I did forget to take it off when doing the washing up and it has been absolutely fine.
The watch is very pretty. I have had numerous people admire my watch and I am always proud to wear it. I especially love mine because it is pink and any friends of mine know that if something is available in pink I have to have it in pink! I have never seen anyone else (apart from my Mum) with this watch but they are available in both Ernest Jones and Goldsmiths so I imagine a lot of people do own them.
Prices vary for the G Line dependent on which one you buy, these prices are from the Goldsmiths website:
Silver coloured/white face, no diamonds: £425.00
Gold plated/white face, no diamonds: £495.00
Silver coloured/silver or black face with dimaonds: £495.00
Goldsmiths also offer an insurance service which I would recommend taking up if you plan on wearing yours regularly.
I love my watch. It is a cherished gift from my parents and I imagine it will be a very important gift of mine for years to come. It means a lot to me because I had wished for one for so long and it is an extremely elegant and stylish watch. Recommended.
So when you're spending in the region of 400 to 500 pounds on a watch there are certain things you expect:-
I don't think there has been a watch since that I have come across where I can honestly say I would be prepared to spend this amount of money on however, that's not to say it does'nt come with it's problems.
Both myself and my mum purchased this watch at different times, from different places.
We both experienced the same issues.
The first being the 18k gold plated stainless steel metal discolours in less than 12 months after its purchase which would appear to be a design fault seeing as we purchased our watches at different times and both experienced the same fault! Therefore, I think I would go for the silver one next time.
The second is that although I accept I have purchased a watch without numbers on the clockface I dont expect to check the time only to be confused as to whether its 10:30 or 11:30! The way the clockface has been made means that certain times of the day are confusing, its not the case with most but even so it should have been better designed.
Everything else is what I would have hoped and expected. Its elegant and reliable (never broken down) it ages well with all the new models and brands that are on the market. Its bracelet does'nt pinch and it looks fab when you dressing up or going to work.
it's Scratch resistant,Water resistant to 30m, has a white mother of pearl rectangular dial and a Swiss made quartz battery movement.
I love love love this watch and although the tag line is very cheesy- I do mean it, this is one of the best expensive purchases I have ever made.
In terms of it's place in the market, Gucci watches are expensive and not a £20 -£50 throw away purchase you might make every year or so. However, they are also not at the eye wateringly expensive end of the market where you are looking at several thousand. I purchased this watch from a jewellery chainstore for just over £400 several years ago.
I have the gold version of this watch with the mother of pearl style face, as pictures, however Gucci also do this watch in silver and you can choose either the mother of pearl, pink or black faces. The gold band on the watch is solid, like a bangle. It does up with a very simple clasp that clicks into place and has Gucci engraved into it. I have to admit that after owning this watch for 5 years and wearing it almost every day, the clasp does not feel as secure as it used to. It still clicks into place, but the 'click' feels rather less solid than it used to and on one occasion the watch did come undone.
Two years ago when I was on holiday and took the watch off on the beach the back of it went missing. I wasn't aware that this was loose, but it came off and sand got into it and the watch temporarily stopped working. As I loved this watch so much I took it to a jewellers who ordered and fitted a new back to it for £50. I have no idea if this is a known problem with these watches or whether I was simply unlucky. However, it was relatively easily fixed. I have never had a problem with this watch 'losing' time and have only set it twice, once when purchased and once after I had the back replaced.
Over four years on, I still think this watch looks fantastic. It has a simple and classy design that means it does not date like more high fashion timepieces. The watch remains unscratched despite alomst constant use, however, on the clasp where it is handled regularly, some of the gold plating is starting to wear off. It is only noticable if you look very closely and hasn't stopped me wearing this watch!
First of all, I realise that I am extremely lucky to own this genuine Gucci watch.
After spending years and years spending £20-50 on watches that would only last me a year or so I decided to save hard and put birthday money towards treating myself to this Gucci watch.
They can be purchased directly from Gucci Stores or online at the Gucci website (don't forget to add P&P!). Or they can also be bought from reputable jewellers online or in stores.
I bought mine online in January from a reputable jeweller who had about £100 off this watch at the time.
It comes in a sturdy and luxurious brown Gucci box, together with guarantee and proof of authenticity.
Please be very very careful buying Gucci watches off ebay! They are most certainly fake a lot of the time.
Anyway, I set the time for this watch and have to say even after several months it keeps the time very well.
The gold colouring has not faded or worn and because it feels more like a bangle on your wrist than a watch it is extremely comfortable in summer and winter.
To begin with I only wore this watch for special occassions but now I wear it every day, as I want to get as much pleasure from it as possible.
I have friends who have Gucci watches who swear by them, some have had them ten years plus and they still look amazing and work well (obviously with battery change/ service ideally from Gucci).
If you are a person that buys a watch every year say for £50 then consider buying a classic Gucci one which will last you ten plus years and you will maybe even save some money depending on the style you buy!
