“ Brand: Kahuna / Type: Watch - mens „
This Kahuna watch featured in Amazon's Black Friday sale last year, and when I called Joe over to ask if he was interested in it, he was surprised to see that it was the watch he received the previous Christmas from his parents. Never one to miss out on a bargain, I asked him if he wanted a spare for this Christmas, and ended up grabbing the watch for a very reasonable £10.50.
The watch has a high-quality stainless steel face/case, but a black fabric strap. Rather than being a cost-cutting measure as I first thought, it turns out that Kahuna is a sporty type of brand with a focus on surfing. As the watch is completely water resistant to 50 metres, this makes it a practical everyday watch as well as one you can take on holiday or out in a storm without worrying about ruining it. This is definitely an advantage for my boyfriend, who isn't very careful with his things and would prefer to just put a watch on and not worry about it. To him it doesn't really matter what the watch looks like as long as it tells the time, so this isn't a watch you'd be checking every couple of minutes to admire but it is hard wearing.
The watch's strap is completely adjustable, and it has a good length of Velcro so I would say that it's one size fits all. It's also very secure and has a good grip - even after a year of being used every day by my careless boyfriend, the watch has never become loose or fallen off, and the Velcro remains as strong as ever. Because it is a Velcro join, it's a good choice of watch for those who might be taking their watch on and off fairly regularly - for example for swimming or other sports.
The watch is an analogue watch as you can tell from the picture above. It's also very much a boy's watch with extra numbers, compass points and a turnable bezel...I don't really think these are necessary and my boyfriend has never used them as far as I know, but the extra functionality is a nice touch on what is effectively a pretty simple watch.
The face itself is described as 'grey bezel' in the official description, but I would say it's more of a blue colour. So far I've tried to create the impression that this is a very low-maintenance watch, and this theme continues with the battery. The battery life of this watch is excellent, and in over a year my boyfriend has never had to change the battery which is a big plus.
Overall, this watch looks nice enough. It's not the smartest or most attractive watch I've ever seen, but in terms of practicality it really does tick all the boxes. This is evident from comparing this Kahuna watch to my boyfriend's previous leather watch, which looked dirty and dog eared just a few months after use. Despite having it for over a year, the Kahuna looks almost as good as new.
The RRP of this watch is £39.95, but can be picked up from Amazon at a reasonable £22.99. At £10.50 it was an absolute steal, and £22.99 is definitely a price worth paying.
