After a little accident with his beloved Timex watch earlier this year, Harry has been awaiting arrival of a new watch, and so my brother decided this would be a great present to get his nephew for Christmas. We both had a good look online to find one which would be suitable for Harry's age and size, and eventually he found this one on the John Lewis website. I really liked the blue strap with the football design, and also the coloured stripes on the dial too, it certainly looked pretty funky so I thought this one would be perfect for Harry, and my brother got it for him. Harry loves his watch and proudly wears it everyday, so it was a great present! The watch is made by Lorus, which is a well known watch manufacturer, and therefore I was sure that the watch would be of a very high quality, and hopefully last Harry a long time, well, as long as he looks after it! The watch comes in a clear plastic case on which the watch is laid out vertically, so it does look very nice as a present. The watch strap is actually brighter than it appears in the photograph, it is more of a bright blue than the darker blue it looks like but I actually prefer it. The football motif is small but in keeping with the size of the watch. Putting the watch on and off is very easy. It is fastened with velcro, therefore can fit any size wrist and is easily adjustable. Harry can't quite put it on himself as he can't thread the strap through the eyelet, but if I do that part and he slides it over his wrist, he gives it a good go. Harry is nearly 5, and the watch is possibly slightly too big for him, there is about 1.5cm overhang when the watch is sitting nicely on his wrist but it doesn't bother him at all, and I am sure the watch will grow with him which is an added benefit. The velcro is of good quality and stays fastened well, you have to give it a good tug to unfasten it so it won't be falling off at any time soon. The dial of the watch is great, and in keeping with the Time Teacher style. It has a silver trim, with a white dial for the main part with numbers all around the edge which are clear and easy to read. Outside this is a half red, half blue line which helps children with their time telling skills. For example, next to the 3, it has 1/4, meaning quarter past the hour, and on the right side is written 'past' so your child will know the time on the right always mean past the hour, and on the left is "to" the hour. The blue denotes the "to" and again there are numbers alongside the time i.e.1/4 to and a 5 next to the 11 for 5 minutes to x hour. Harry hasn't quite got the hang of this yet but I am hoping he will soon enough! I am really pleased with the watch, and would certainly buy another one if any damage came to this one. The design is very fresh and bright - the strap is woven and therefore very flexible for young wrists and also velcro so easily adjustable, the dial is bright and clear with lots of aids to help your child with mastering time, and it seems of a very high quality too, just as you would expect from a brand such as Lorus. Harry loves wearing his posh watch, and often puts it into its case at night so he can look after it which is great. I would recommend this watch to all little boys, with its football motifs on the strap it makes it even more fun. Brilliant! Model: Lorus RG261AX9 Time Teacher.
