Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Watch
Advantages: Looks good, teaches time
My daughter has just turned three and for her birthday this year we decided it was time to buy her her own watch. She really liked looking at ours and trying to put ours on and kept asking about what time it was or what time we were going someone so I thought it was a great idea to get her a watch of her own and help her start learning how to tell the time. It's a skill that needs to be taught but I thought if she could look at a watch every day on her wrist she would pick it up a lot quicker than by not having one.
She loves Mickey and Minnie Mouse so on a trip to the Disney store the weekend before Christmas (an excursion I don't recommend, the place was packed with tired frantic adults and screaming children) I found this watch. It was a last minute find as I had actually gone in for something else and was standing in an everlasting, non moving queue when I found it by the til. I actually wanted a Minnie Mouse one, not a blue Mickey Mouse one as it was for my little girl but when I asked the assistant at the til she said the only one they had for girls was a bit of a naff princess one so I bought the Mickey one. It was only £10 so I thought if she really didn't like it it wasn't too much of a problem but thankfully she loves it and loves having a watch of her own. It is recommended for age 3+ so perfect for her.
The watch came in a nice cardboard presentation box so if you are thinking of this as a present for someone it would be good. The watch itself is blue and made of plastic. The strap is made of that shiny plastic material and the face is a bit chunkier. My daughter has such small wrists that even the smallest hole fitting did not fit on her wrist so my husband had to make another one a bit further along but thankfully this did not break the plastic.
What I like about the watch is that it has a proper clock face with hour, minute and second hands so my little girl can learn to tell the time properly. In my opinion this is much better than a digital watch which is no way to learn the time properly.
The watch has a picture of a smiling Mickey Mouse on the face, looking as cute and funny as ever. The hour hand is blue and the minute hand is red and the second hand is black. Like I've said above, the watch band is plastic and blue and has prints of Mickey Mouses's head on it in blue, white and red. Around the watch face are the numbers 1 to 12 written in red ink. These are quite easy to see and fairly bold so it makes it easy to tell time. There is a dial that moves around the watch face and this has 5 to 60 written in 5 minute increments. This dial helps to teach the time to little kids. For some reason this dial only moves anticlockwise but its easy to move and my little girl is always doing that and looking at it.
There is a silver dial at the side which allows you to twist it to set the time and I find this fairly easy to do.
This is a really nice watch and hopefully my little girl will be telling the time in no time!!
