Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Watch
Advantages: Mickey Mouse, well made, good price, minutes hand different colour
Disadvantages: None for me
Looking for a little watch for my youngest daughter, I was pleased when I came across this Mickey Mouse Clubhouse watch. My daughter is only 4 so can't tell the time, but has started taking an interest in the time and clocks, although at the moment every time you ask her the time it seems to always be 2 'o'clock, I figured a watch may help her get a grasp of 'half pasts', etc a little more.
For under £10, I thought the price was really good, and the fact that it has Mickey Mouse all over it is a bonus as she is obsessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Sky. I was quite aware that the watch was blue and may be aimed more at a boy but I hoped she wouldn't notice this too much as it seemed the best watch that I could find for the same price. She has since receiving it, only mentioned that it was blue once but I just told her that Santa thought she loved blue, to which she replied 'oh, yes I do actually, not as much as pink though.'!
The watch came nicely presented in a plastic packet. Suitable for age 3 plus, I think this is a little young as I don't know many 4 year olds that can tell the time but this is probably more to do with small parts etc.
The watch itself in terms of telling the time is quite useful and has the numbers as you would expect on a child's watch rather than the dots or dashes to mark each hour. The strap is blue with lots of stars all over while the face of the watch has a big picture of Mickey Mouse which will make telling the time lots of fun. We started out by telling her it was mickeys ear past 3, or Mickeys chin past 5 and she has already started to grasp the hours part in just a few weeks since Christmas. We have explained to her that this isn't the correct way to tell the time but we will worry about the 5 past, half past etc, bit later. She finds telling the time fun and even wears her watch to school. I would love to be a fly on the wall in her class when she is telling people it is mickeys ear past 10! They must think we are barmy!
The minutes hand is a different colour allowing the child to differentiate between minutes and hours (something I always struggled to grasp when I was young), and this will definitely come in handy for later on when we 'properly' teach her to tell the time.
The watch seems (so far) to be well made and even survived a frantic 10 second dive into the bath (which I wouldn't recommend!). For the purpose of teaching the time in a fun way, it is perfect, and the endorsement by Mickey will no doubt be a hit too.
