“ Brand: Nixon / Type: Men „
Nowadays, a good watch is an essential item for fashion for any man when getting ready for work or a night out. It not only does its job, of being a watch and letting you know the time, but also provides a fashion statement about you and what you like to wear. In my opinion, Nixon watches are up there as a rule as the nicest and most fashionable watches you can buy. They look smart and appear well made and extremely professional. I receieved mine for xmas last year, and although it has been fantastic, it has now encountered problems and it has been in france for repair for about 6 months in the last year - less fantastic!
As i have already stated, i got this watch for xmas, and was immediately bowled over by just how good looking it was. The leather strap is both fashionable and comfortable whilst the clock face is extremely attractive. The minute and hour hands' see through appearance really adds something to the already great looking beast. The leather does have disadvantages though, it does get quite sweaty on warm days as it is quite thick, and it can also be uncomfortable if it begins to rub up your arm, but i suppose these problems will be common with most watches. It also lacks waterproofing, which is a pain as my old nixon used to never be taken off, taken into the shower and the pool; i was always happy it was going to keep working - this one is different, you have to be oh so careful.
The customer service, whilst good, has let it down by its very location. My watch broke about 2 months ago, i took it to a local watch maker who said he couldn't do anything without removing the warranttee, so back to nixon it went. Unfortunately, their europe home is in France, and any repairs have to be done there. The watch went away, came back 2 months later, worked for about 3 weeks and then stopped all over again. It is therefore back in France again now, and i am, of course, once again, eagerly awaiting its return. To be fair, they have offered me a new watch if it cannot be fixed, but i am waiting on their decision. Thus it seems the decision making is poor, but overall service can't actually be faulted too badly.
A lovely watch and a great product, just hope beyond hope that it doesn't break on you!
This watch, one of the more established Nixon watches, is a pretty good timepiece, yet is nothing special. I feel this review demands some subheadings so here we go. Incidentally I have the purely black one.
This is certainly the strong point of the watch, and in terms of appearance, it lives up to its name with aplomb, combining a great 2-piece leather strap, and a very nice casing. I also really like the dial - it is a wonderful, minimal design, and despite the small face size, everything on it is very clear. I have to admit, that the casing only really works due to the size of the strap! Seen by itself it is bulky and not very appealing, but as a holistic package the watch is great.
Firstly, the wide leather strap provides comfort I've not found on any other watch: I barely notice it is hanging on my wrist. The mechanism seems fine to me - I've had this watch for several years now, and I have no complaints over it's ability to keep time in relation to other clocks and devices I use. The battery life is pretty good, which I assume is down to the minimal functionality it offers: Aside from the 3 expected hands, you have only a numerical date and a backlight. However both work just as you would expect, and the backlight is nice and even across the face and refreshingly soft, yet still enables a clear reading of the dial without blinding you.
The most glaring disadvantage of the Rocker is its lack of waterproofing. While Nixon claim that it can resist light splashes, but I have no desire to take it anywhere near water! I don't see any reason why the addition of a 50-100m waterproofing was neglected, and would really complete the watch. Secondly the leather needs to be cleaned quite frequently, as it tends to pick up sweat quickly, and consequently smells quite bad. Not sure if this is exclusive to the Rocker, but is a tad annoying.
