I was given this watch 4 years ago at Christmas by an ex-boyfriends parents - I'd seen it on a shopping trip in Selfridges in Newcastle and it was bought in secret - I was a bit mad and surprised due to the price of the watch considering it had just come from in-laws!
Nixon are known for making tough, quality built made to last watchs for just about anyone - with normal looking watchs for men and women and also the more unusual watchs which would people who like myself aren't "really watch people".
I have never been one to like watchs. I fiddle around with them too much, I don't like them very much to look at from a fashion sense and I couldn't remember a watch that I ever felt comfortable wearing. When I came across the Nixon Vega range they turned my opinion on watchs completly around...
About the Nixon Vega range
The Vega range has been out at least 4 years as thats when I was given this one as a gift. The strange thing to me is the Nixon website states that the Nixon range is new so I can only imagine it has either gone off the shelves for a few years or its due to the fact that there is now other colours available.
When I first seen these watchs in Selfridges 4 years ago I believe there was only 4 colours available - which were white, white and black or black. I chose the white watch as:
A. I didn't want to look like a zebra wearing white and black
B. I thought the black looked too dark and depressing
On the Nixon website there is now 14 colours available from standard all one colours or multi coloured.
The whole watch strap is made out of seperate sections of plastic which have two sections of a white rope material which go through to keep the watch together in one piece. By the design being like this the watch is stretchy so no need to have it adjusted like many other watchs need to.
The plastic is smooth and on the inside of the watch strap (opposite side of the plastic) it is engraved with many tiny Nixon Symbols which I can describe as similar to oval shapes.
The back of the watch face where battery can be inserted is a metal material and is engraved with further information about the watch:
"VIXON love the hotness THE VEGA 30m stainless steel"
Unlike a lot of other watchs this watch back can't just be popped open to get to the battery - it is held on to the rest of the watch by 4 tiny screws.
The watch face itself is exactly the same shape and near same colour as the plastic blocks which make up the watch. The watch face is also glass. It blends in really nicely and from a distance could look like a funky bracelet to someone who doesn't know better.
There is no numbers on the watch face... the background is white and the hands are silver. However due to the shape of the face it is not difficult to tell by looking at it what the time is considering no numbers are present. Near to the bottom of the right hand side of the face you have the brand name "Nixon" stamped in silver.
To the right of the face you have your little button at the side which can be pulled slightly out and turned around to adjust the time when needed.
As you have probably guessed this is the best watch I have ever owned. It does tend to go with most outfits and looks a lot more better than other watchs you sometimes see.
Considering the best part of the watch is made out of plastic you would expect it to be covered in scratchs and have chunks missing through wear and tear but it still looks good as new - the only downside would be because I got the white watch it does get grubby easily... however I would recommend a quick go with a wet wipe if this happens - the only thing you can't do anything about is the rope material which holds the plastic blocks of the watch together - this is also white and and because its hidden by the plastic blocks you can't do anything to clean them.
The batteries seem to last forever, to give you a better idea on this I have changed the watch batteries once since I've had the watch.
I have skinny wrists naturally and it sits nicely with a bit of room on my wrist - even if your wrist is thicker becuase it stretchs it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Great watch for a teenage girl or a young woman and the price isn't too shocking if you get it at the right place. Would recommend to everyone. Even if you don't like this particular watch style check their website - they have lots of choice.
Price & Availability
You can pick the watch up in many stores nationwide which is likely your best bet to pick one up at a lower price - the one I have from Selfridges was around £45 and they currently retail on the UK Nixon website at between £60-£70.
